While we're on topic of curries, my Hubbles grew up in South Africa and their version of the late night kebab is a Bunny Chow which is a curry in a hollowed out loaf of bread.

I've made it a couple of times but my most successful was made with potatoes mushrooms, turkey thigh and spinach in a curry sauce (would need to be at home with recipe book to give full ingredients). Its so yum and I kept the inners of the loaf and used it as breadcrumbs for a gratin another night.

:T ....it's in the slow cooker and tastes really nice although my pregnant tastebuds might be making it taste good when it actually tastes like cr*p!! I'll find out when I try to feed it to o/h tonight.
I didn't have any tomatoe puree so I added some salsa that I had in the fridge, should be okay. Just hope I can stomach it come tea time.:o
btw this has been a nsd

Had to go to shops today, oh came home from pub last night and decided to cook what he could find in the fridge, hasn't done that in years so can't be cross, but dinner is going to be light tonight :D . Spent 13 so well through my weekly budget already, not sure if I can pull this off.

Afternoon all. A NSD yesterday & also today. Just been back home from work for an hour & half and have made a quiche, bakewell tart & jam tarts with the remaining pastry. Will freeze the quiche in portion sizes along with some of the bakewell. Have got an order with Asda being delivered Friday evening so hoping to keep out of the shops till then. Have a good evening.

Just updated my sig as I had nearly run out of milk and of course needed bread, so total now stands at £128.93. Was very good though and was not side tracked into looking for stuff not on my list! Got caught in yet another shower though - when is summer going to start? Perhaps I should move to Germany!

For lunch OH and I had leftover chicken (from Saturday) new potatoes and the leek gratin which I prepared to go with yesterday's roast lamb but forgot to take out of the fridge and cook! The leftover veg from yesterday and rest of the chicken has gone in the slow cooker with some onion and stock to make soup for lunches (well, I did say where has summer gone!) and I used the leftover roast lamb to make two shepherd's pies a la Hugh FW. So that's tomorrow night's dinner sorted. OH is going to London on Weds for work so I will just do myself an omlette when I get in. I am hoping to last to the weekend before shopping again, but might have to buy more fruit before then. Well, that's my day off nearly over (I did the big ironing pile this morning) though we are out tonight - so no more cooking for me today! Catch up with you all tomorrow.

    Love M

Had a small trip to MrT today only spent £2, to get ham and ritz biscuits for my fussy toddler who has decided he doesnt want to eat hot food at the moment. Fed up with throwing his dinners away so its cold bits for him for dinner.

  • Today our family has been out for the whole day. Normally I would have got a take-away for lunch, spending £10-£15, but I was strong and made sandwiches before we left to take with us. On the way home, we drove past a supermarket and I was tempted to go in and buy a few bits, but managed to drive past and not go in! The temptation to spend is strong, but I have resisted for 2 days now - but there are 28 days of the month left! What kept me going was thinking of putting a post here and saying that I had spent absolutely no money whatsoever today! Mutual support is good!:j

Hi there, I know you did not ask for the recipe but i thought you might like to try and make them. May work out cheaper for you.

ORIGINALLY POSTED BY ANGELNIKKI? On the MAY GROCERY CHALLENGE THREAD.

Cheesy Biscuits - Makes about 20 Ritz sized biscuits

    50g SR flour
    25g butter/marge
    80g grated mature cheddar
    splash of milk

Mix all ingredients together and knead a little until you have a ball
Roll out to about 2 1/2mm and cut into stars (or whatever shape you fancy)
Bake at 200c/Gas6 for about 8-10 minutes until they start to colour.
They rise really nicely and crisp up a bit as they cool.

The original recipe said to add 20g Parmesan and a pinch cayenne pepper too but they’re just as yummy without. You could use an egg yolk instead of the milk to bind, which will crisp up the biscuits a bit.
