Part of the Furniture Combo Breaker Mortgage-free Glee!
Bit of a disaster yesterday as my bread maker broke. (The sprockets which hold the pan inside the machine have sheered off). I am going to email Breville about a repair but think it will be cheaper to buy a new one(or get one via freecycle!) This means that I will have BUY bread for the first time in over a year!

DD2 and her BF came yesterday and bought a huge bunch of rhubarb from his family's garden which is now in the freezer (I cook mine first).

Managed to watch the Hugh FW programme we recorded last night and will probably try the sheperd's pie recipe with the leftovers from today's roast. I did try using cooked lamb once before but it wasn't entirely successful - but I will have a go.

I must say all the talk about growing stuff has got me itching to have a go. I have a very small garden with no room for a veg patch ( not without a radical redesign that is). I know I could start with pots but the trouble is if it doesn't rain it's a fag to water them - and as I work full time the last thing I want to do when I come home and have cooked and eaten our meal is to lug watering cans about the garden. Perhaps I should make the effort though - am I too late to get started? The weather has been really awful here today - heavy rain this morning then just dull and grey - it's a good job I cut the grass yesterday.

I have a day off tomorrow so I might investigate some seeds and pots - after I have tackled the humungous pile of ironing I have and cooked lunch for me and OH. Trouble is we are going out in the evening and I also have to visit a sick friend - there aren't enough hours in the day!

This thread moves along at a pace.
My month started to day and i have spent £45, in Aldi and Netto. I am hoping bar daily essentials that this will last for at least two weeks. But i doubt it.
On a slightly off topic note, Netto have some fab hayfever tabs in at 49p. One a day and non drowsy. I took them away with me last week for DH and DS,as they both suffer. They declared them to be better than some of the dearer brands.
    Off to update my sig.

We have an Aldi opened near us, I have had a quick look but was wondering if anyone could recommend some good value products from them?

hey folks, just checking in, have already spent some of my weekly grocery money before today, but have decided that I won't count that. Will start today, unfortunately  . Went to takeaway for me and the weans, OH wanted me to go to a football dinner dance with him but couldn't face all those really long speeches!! Also couldn't face cooking when it's just me and weans, so €24 down the pan!! On the plus side, it was really nice :o . Also went to local supermarket, bought a handful of items and spent €13  . Not started off too well, but will get better as I go along, hopefully. Haven't had time to read up on all I've missed, will hopefully get a chance in a wee while after I've taken dog for a walk.

Hi, i have been reading all the posts over the last few days, and although they are very inspiring, its not really working on me.
I ended up doing a trawl of supermarkets on Friday, and have spent loads!!:o
However I have stocked up the freezer and the cupboards and got frozen veg etc. so although i have spent £236.15 i shouldn't need to buy hardly anything else for the rest of the month, this is probably a good thing as I'm due to have my 2nd baby in 12 days:eek: and am feeling very tired so hopefully wont have the urge to shop:rolleyes:

Well i've broken into my shiny new budget, got loads from Mr T, no whoopsies, but their scottish healthy living chicken breasts are 1/2 price. Down to 5.49 per kilo, i bought 5 packs:D That should do me for a while. Mr T also has their wholemeal organic pasta reduced. Mr T's pricing is weird, the regular Mr T wholemeal pasta is 1.24 for 500g:eek: However their organic wholemeal pasta is 89p for 500g:confused: And it was down to 75p today:D Very weird...

Don't forget you are on the 'Old Style' website. Why don't you have a go at making bread by hand. The only extra time needed is the 10 min. kneading time..otherwise it takes no longer than a BM...do have a go...you might just enjoy the sense of satisfaction it gives (and get rid of a few 'aggressions' on the dough :D

:hello: Hi, made my first pizza today, tomato, bacon & cheese, it was the best ever. Can't believe we wasted all that time trying different shop bought ones. For once there was no crust left either. :T :T

Spent all morning yesterday baking, scones, rasp muffins, victoria sandwich, rich currant biscuits and choc biscuits. Wish I could be a stay at home mum, I'm beginning to enjoy this. :j :j

Depsarately want to keep within budget this month, cupboards and freezer are well stocked, but already could do with potatoes & cheese. Why can't I do it, don't want to shop for at least a week.
