... I want to go to the supermarket - after a week at a very quiet seaside village I need to see shops!

:rotfl: :rotfl: Sorry, I had to laugh at the above comment. I live in a quiet place by the sea and it takes me all my time to drum up enough enthusiasm to walk to the Co-op or visit the supermarket in the next town, 7 miles away, which is under buy-out threat from Co-op. I don't go actual shopping very often, as visiting the nearest town with 'real' shops means a day trip. In fact, virtual shopping for groceries is just as rare, as nobody delivers within our area. My dd went to college in a fairly large town, so she got shop withdrawal symptoms when she first moved back with me, but she's fine now. :rotfl:

Blew budget today by over £17  Still have 4 days to end of my month but shouldn't have to buy anything else. I am going to have to reduce next months by whatever I go over to make amends. On a plus note I used £15 of vouchers today on my shop (did bigger shop as we are having BBQ today but I didn't pay for it)

Mind the rising food prices were really brought home to me whilst I was in the shop. A little old lady asked me to help her work out whether some of the offers were really offers (ie pre packed broccoli £1 but it was cheaper to buy it loose if you went by price per g) and she said she has spent £12 a week on food for as long as she could remember, a couple of months ago she could buy that much she had trouble getting it home in her trolley now she only needs to bring one carrier bag and even thats not full:eek: she was really worried about how she would manage if prices went up even more and sadly she actually looked like she was going to cry as she had to put back some chicken as she couldnt afford it:mad: and bless her she was walking round with the offer leaflet trying to see if she could make any of the offers provide enough food for her for a week.
Really comes to something when our elderly cant eat and in winter freeze as they cant afford heating either:mad:

Sorry rant over, it just upset me a bit to see her struggle realy wish I could have helped her out a bit more but at least I know I managed to save her a few pennies

Just one thing to say ..... Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr:mad:       (I dar'nt say any more coz this isn't the place and I will be banned!)

Well I've spent 2 hours going round tesco's this evening trying to spend £60 so I can use my £6 off £60 MOC. I was adding everything up on my mobile as I went around. All the stuff on my list came to £35 so I have stocked up on loo rolls, washing up liquid, posh walkers crisps (half price), handwash, juice. Bought 3 lots of father's day cards and chocs and book and a top for £4 for me. So although I spent nearly £53 (with £6 MOC off and a couple of othe MOC's) only £30.56 is only classed as within GC budget. I don't include presents, alcohol or clothes :p .

Only thing is I only have £16 to last me the rest of the month  .

Hope everyone has a lovely weekend :)

Just a thought, and I know this isn't exactly the right thing to do, but what about if you had brought a kettle or something for £25 to make it £60, then took it back the next day or something? Would that still count????

Also any suggestions for bananas - have about 20 of them that need something doing with them. Will make muffins and bread with them tomorrow but will still have loads left. Might make some banana and strawberry smoothies and freeze them. Any different ideas would be appriciated.
    Thanks

    Jude xx

    Hi Jude,
    My family love this:

    Banana and lemon drizzle cake

175g soft butter (& some for tin)
    175g caster sugar
    3 eggs
    300g SR flour
    2 level tsp baking powder
    2 ripe bananas, mashed
    grated zest of ½ lemon
    2 tbsp milk

    topping:
    juice of 1 lemon
    100g granulated sugar

Line base of 20cm deep cake tin, butter sides.
Mix together cake ingredients until smooth and pour into lined tin.
Bake in oven preheated to 180oC/160oC fan/ gas 5 for about 45-50 mins.
Leave to cool a little then remove from tin.
Make topping by mixing ingredients in a bowl.
Pour over the warm cake and spread to the edges.

Freezes well iced or un-iced – I normally make 2 – one for now and one for the freezer.

    :j I've got my Mojo back :j

Been up since about 10am (Hubby couldn't sleep last night as he has a bad back) so obviously, when he can't sleep, I'm not allowed to either  so tried to get a bit of a sleep between 8am - 10am...

Anyway, had to go out and get him some tablets (£1.45) and then set to work cleaning through downstairs (dog hair - where does it all come from??? ). then put the BM on to make another loaf, made some orange & choc chip muffins, shortbread and bounty bites, then put loaf on side to rise (Not on top of oven this time :D ) and put mix in for chelsea buns, then rolled out and they are sitting proving ready to cook as we speak...

Just off now to get dogs some food as we are out (£19.30) then ready to start cleaning upstairs as getting new 3 door wardrobe this afternoon from freecycle and then I MUST do some washing as we have nothing to wear :D .

It's helped because it's a lovely day here today - sun is shining and back doors open coz it's so warm - bit cloudy but still lovely - hope it lasts...

Anyway, have a lovely weekend everyone, Happy OSGC to you all...
