Hi lilmisskitkat, good luck with move and the imminent arrival!

tq16 - i will definitely try your recipe for making bread. I've always wanted to have a go at breadmaking but always worried it sounds a bit complicated. This recipe sounds quite simple. Do you think you could use honey instead of golden syrup?

Been pretty good this week with spending and menu planning, we're eating really well and yet I didn't need to do a full weekly shop this week because we've loads left in the fridge and freezer. However went up to the local shops when OH got back from work with the car at 1pm for a "few bits" as we were out of bread and nearly out of bread (wish I'd seen tq16's recipe sooner) and spent £16.14 in total on groceries :T but also £15.50 on clothes- five reduced items perfect for our holiday in August:D and £61.46 on gifts:eek: but these aren't counted in grocery budget.

  • I love this thread. Used the recipe for Chickpea and Potato curry and made that tonight, but I did add some chicken. It was fab. Thank you. Did a bit of shopping today, milk, chicken breasts, so will update sig tomorrow. Made naan bread to go with curry tonight and they were really tasty. Does anyone cook their own popadoms. We used to years ago when we had a deep fat fryer. We don't have one anymore and I was wondering if you could shallow fry them? Must be able to do it cheaper than buying them precooked;)

Can anyone answer the above for me?

Do you have almond essence that you can add to the sponge mix instead of the ground almonds?? If not just make a plain sponge mix - it won't be a bakewell tart without the almond flavour but will still be a lovely pudding

Just been given some mint in a pot, want to put it outside in a pot in the garden (was told not to plant into the garden because mint spreads like wild fire) anyway:D what soil do I need to buy (cheapest and best) to put it in a pot? Thanks

Hi Victory....mint will grow in virtually anything. I would just get some multi-purpose compost and stick it in that. Alternatively, you can actually plant it in the garden but in order to stop it taking over the flower beds, if you have an old plastic bucket, cut the bottom off it and then dig a hole big enough to sink the bucket in. Fill the bucket with the soil you have dug out of the hole, plant the mint in the bucket and then plant the bucket in the hole, IYSWIM. That way, it will get the benefit of being properly planted but wont be able to spread. I did this at our old house and it worked really well.

    cheers

    Eek a recipe request!

Basically I chopped and fried up an onion and some garlic, added in some grated carrot, herbs, tin of toms and wilted spinach, let it bubble for a bit! I did a layer of this, put on my lasagne sheets added some goats cheese mixed with soya milk (need to avoid cows milk) and did another layer of the same - bunged in the oven for 20 - 30 mins until you can bear the smell no more - then scoff :rotfl:

Sorry - not a weights and measures girl - was a kinda off the cuff experiment that worked - so I made it again:rotfl:

Thanks will give it a go not keen on goats cheese but can use normal cheesy white sauce.
    Many thanks
Thanks to MSE savings we got to go to Disneyworld Florida.

Fifth non spend day in a row for me, although I did cheat a bit. DD visited - she always wants cheese on toast when she comes as she doesn't have a proper grill on her cooker. I told her I had no bread and to pick a loaf up on her way here, so I gained a loaf of bread :D I am looking after her child tonight though so it is poor compensation.

    Evening all

Well this weeks meal plan is off to a good start :rotfl: It was suposed to be thai beef with noodles and hm naans... well it was far too hot for that gubbins..and hubby had set his heart on cheese salad sandwiches -nothing to do with a new loaf of bread coming out of the oven;) and since i got 14 blocks of cheddar the other day -i think we can spare a bit :p
So that was dinner tonight.... still it leaves another whole meal extra for next month -to add to the 3 from last week that we didn't need :j

Tomorrows mission (hubby out golfing) is to make another batch of baguettes, get some tortilla dough made and stick the balls in the freezer and im going to make several batches of naans so i can use up the tzatziki(instead of yogurt in them ;) )and then stick them in the freezer

Also -not on the meal plan this week :o think i might use the huge cauli i got whoopsed today to make a big cauli cheese to put with jackets and then the rest will turn into the base of a maccaroni/cauli cheese bake later in the week...another 2 meals to cross off this week i guess:rotfl:

Had to move some of the tomato containers around today they were getting out of control :rotfl: so have had to re-jig them.... tomorrow i need to transplant some more lettuces and the pak choi that now need more room... going to get some more salad leaves set too..if it isn't too warm out there..shall have to try and get up extra early so i can get back in before it starts ;)
right i will get off again..have a god evening everyone:D
