Hi denise..no problem
I make it by hand now but I used to let the BM do the work
• 300ml luke warm water
• 14g fresh yeast(dissolved in the water)...which i think is about 2tsp dried and a pinch of sugar
• 500g bread flour
• 3tsp salt
Throw them in your machine in the normal order for your BM.... just dump the salt in a corner to keep it away from the yeast to start with..and set to dough....
If you are letting the BM do the 1st raise then just tip out and shape into an oiled 2lb tin, cover with a carrier bag like a tent and leave until about 2-3" above the top of the tin... then wang in a preheated oven -230 for about 25mins or until golden -tip it out and if you knock on the bottom it should sound hollow

That makes a crusty loaf.... if you want it softer you can use part water and part milk .. and if you want it to keep better you can add a knob of butter/oil (i always found that oil makes a heavier loaf)-but we never bother as any that makes it past day 1 gets sliced and frozen
Thanks for that Mrs M, Hubby loves crusty loaves so this will be ideal. Think that is where I'm going wrong with the BM loaf as it has butter in it. Just back from Mr T's and have brought 4 bags of strong flour (44p each) and two 2lb bread tins, so guess what I'm doing this afternoon?:D

Hi All
Can I ask a question..............What on earth are Twinks Hobnobs?!!

Ha ha, they are our salvation, the 10th wonder of the universe:rotfl: . Seriously, they were posted by someone by the name of 'Twink' hence the name. They are scrummy hobnob style biccies and can be found on any of the GC threads I think - not sure exactly where, but if you do a search by thread (at the top of the page) you are bound to come up with the recipe.

Just back from tesco's and spent £44:mad: didn't buy loads either, but had to spend £8.95 on 8 razors for hubby coz he had run out . Won't be buying them from there again!!!!!

damn!! gone over this week  had to get DS15 some socks which cost me a fiver, and some fruit, as i don't really think we're eating enough.and then when i opened the punnet of strawbs from Mr M, 7 of them were mouldy . i've rung the store and they said i can take my receipt in with the yukky strawbs and get a refund. doesn't Mr M give you the product AND a refund if there's something wrong??

i also spent £3 on sending away my nescafe beans to get one of their fluffy dressing gowns!

my week doesn't finish till Sunday, so there's no way i'm going near a flippin shop tomorrow!

hope everyone else is faring better xx

Orkneystar - the tablet has turned out fine :D Its darker than I exected it to be, but my mum said that would happen because of the double boiling. Tastes great, I had a bit for breakfast ;) I know, I'm gross :)

If you are gross then I am too lol, I ate some of our last lot at about 8am and am often known to eat a wee bit off choccy just before I settle down to bf DS!
Glad it worked out though.
I was hoping to make some to send for sis's b'day but did not get round to it. Will hopefully make some this coming week.

Hello everyone,

Friday is my day off work & I've had a lovely one : I've done 3 loads of washing, cleaned the entire home apart from DD's room which needs a whole day just to itself . Is it very sad to call that a lovely day, just means I have no chores to do apart from cutting grass :D.

Struggling on the £50 a week GC challenge though :o , I may have to renegotiate that back to £200 a month which allows for overspill from one week to the next ;) Had to pop into the co op for sugar & potatoes & ended up with 2 x hovis granary (2 for £2.50) & some lovely bacon ( 2 for £4.00), also needed crunch nut cornflakes for DD & bought co op's own for £1.65 rather than Kellogs for £2.51 , also had to get a birthday card for friend so ended up spending £14.64  .

I am ashamed as I've now spent £61.29 more than £10 over my allowance.

Checked the receipt & did giggle to see that the code for potatoes is : MRS PPR POTS, anyone else remember those books or am I really old ?

Lula-Hula - yes I remember the Mrs Pepperpot stories - the lady who used to shrink and all these exciting things happened to her. I also used to like the stories about the children from One End Street.
