  • I did thanks Taxi, although it seems like you have had a really good one as well.
I have now done all the washing and ironing andjust have a few duvets to wash...i think it is this hot weather..brings out the washing bug in me!
DS1 has made a loaf and we are debating on whether to take the breadmaker on hols with us? I just love the smell and we have good facilities in the caravan..even a dishwasher, so no arguments there..Am just about to have a bash at HM sausage rolls, using the cheapie Asda sausages, 57p for 8thick ones, and some pastry bits i have been saving..might also make some picnic eggs as well.
Chicken basted in a curry sauce for tea tonight, works out at about £1.50 for the chicken thighs, salad -free, as i was given toms and have swapped some lettuce, so we will use the rest up.
    Pud is Aldi Melon, 69p
breakfast..3p porridge oats..milk is down to 25p as watered down bargain milk..great for using in porridge..dinner was left over boiled eggs on HM bread, so about 10p in total with toms..not bad!
so slightly over budget today, but i am in the mood for chicken!
    catch you all later. x

Chicken is really expensive at the moment! My hubby has been getting the BOGOF chicken breasts at Mossies.

It's easy to give in to that negative voice that chants "cant do it" BUT we lift each other up.
We dont count all the runners ahead of us & feel intimidated.
Instead we look back proudly at our journey, our personal struggle & determination & remember that there are those that never even attempt to reach the starting line.
  • Tell me about it Linda..i bought some frozen, and because it is not free range the kids won't eat it. Has been there for ages, and i want the room in the freezer..so i said just this once to eat it up...the rest is going on Mr.B's sandwiches.
They didn't argue much either as it did taste nice with the sauce.

made the sausage rolls..very yummy, got 24 out of 7 sausages..works out at 2p each and they were quite large as well..

made a lemon drizzle cake as well but slightly crisp as i was nattering on phone..oops..worked out ok though and will last a couple of days for snacks. I think i costed that out at 20p before, so will go and check after.

Another 2 loaves made, so will keep us going for about 3 days i hope, a seeded one, 30p and a plain white 25p (is also large) so i reckon i am all baked out for another day..

last of the duvets washed, and i am going to hang over the bannister to dry..

    How is everyone else?

does it work out a lot cheaper to use a breadmaker to make your own bread then.

I do both, Weezl reckons if you use ordinary flour in the no knead bread and no butter or anything like that she can make it for about 12p a loaf i think..maybe wrong on those totals.

Using a breadmaker is ok, about 3 hours ( quicker if hand make)and after the cost of it of course all the loaves are free. We are using up some Dove organic flour i got reduced in Aldi of all places..so i am chuffed with that, also use organic butter, reduced from Asda ( i think) i have had it in the freezer, i also have the bargain butter in the 50p war..so loaf prices will vary according to ingredients used...

  • Put an advert on freecycle, loads go on there apparently. We bought DS one for his 16th birthday from ASDA, as he is into baking and have never looked back..it was only a cheapie one from Tesco. I also think it is worth doing both and have a practice, not as bad as you think and easily more filling than shop bought bread.
