Do you think am making the right choise? (Future Career)

Hey guys, Well as a future career I want to go in Business & Finance, maybe into Accountancy....

So i was thinking I have 2 options how I can get there & reach my dream...

Option 1

Go to college and do 4 A-Levels in Accounting,Business,Economics and Mathematics and then get a Placement with one of the top accountacy firms like Deltorie,KPMG,PWC,Ernest & Young etc and do a placement option which enables me to do a 4Year degree in BSc (Hons) Accounting, Auditing & Finance which also includes a full paid 18month placement with them and they pay my university fees for the first year plus other benefits and after my degreee is over if I get a First or 2:1 they offer me a high-salary job.

Option 2

Go to college and do 4 A-Levels in Accounting,Business,Economics and Mathematics and then go to a university and do a course in Accounting & Finance for 3 Years and then apply and try to get a job at top accountacy firms like Deltorie,KPMG,PWC,Ernest & Young etc.

Which one do you think is the best option and why?

This has to be your decision, but if you go for Ernst and Young for goodness sake spell their name correctly!

It is really up to you. I didnt realise if you did a placement for them they paid for your first year.

The second one was the route I wanted to go down, I did 4 A Levels (Maths, Economics, Computing, Art & Design) and i am in my final year of BSc (Hons) Management, and have a graduate job offer from KPMG. If you go down the second route, my advice to you would be to try to secure an internship with the company you want to work it, and they might give u a graduate job offer, so you dont have to worry about finding a job in your third year on top of everything else.

P.s. You dont need to do all your a levels and uni degree in finance related things.

Your A Levels are far too close together. I would take Maths and Economics, plus a language and something else that you actually enjoy.

The pre degree placements that you describe with the Big Four are highly competitive. I would not place everything on getting a placement plus sponsorship without having a strong back up plan.

Even if you do not get experience with the Big Four by the end of your degree, as long as you have some work experience and transferable skills, then any half decent graduate will get a job with the Big Four (assuming things don't completely change in the next few years!).

Remember that after three (or four) years at uni, you may wish to take a completely different path. Be careful not to limit your life options before you have even left school x

How you said my AS-levels are all closely related to Business & Finance and I will get bored and sick of them along with them being heavy for me; I have decided to change it to a ratio of 3:1 - 3 Main subjects: 1 Less pressured subject which I don't have to really worry about.

So from

It is now

Sociology

Good idea not to do Business and Eco together, some uni's do not like this.

Um as for the placement option. Do it. You are far likely able to get on the ladder if you have work under your belt!

However saying that, if you get a 1st from Oxford will you need a placement?

I think you should consider doing economics at a levels rather than business studies, it is a much better and much more academic course and will prepare you better for university

Hey There,

I work at Deloitte and managed to get a summer internship while at Uni. I echo the thoughts of the other guys on here, do not narrow down your options to just accounting as you never really know the job will suit, until you have spent a few months in it. Also the ACA alongside working can be hard, and a bad fail of an exam will see you out looking for new work quite quickly.

I studied Economics and Politics, but many of my year group studied various things from Geology to Music, thus the degree subject is not too important, the important thing is the class of degree. As such I would recommend studying something that interests you and thus you will put more time into and hopefully pass well. Another factor is also the university you choose, some Unis are looked upon as key recruitment sites for the big 4, mainly Russel Group ones, which regularly get recruitment visits from their HR teams with seminars and training to help with applications and choices.

With regards the business studies vs economics, I have yet to find anyone in business who takes business studies seriously, but then thats my opinion.

Good luck with the career, and dont forget to look at the Deloitte website for the scholar scheme from Deloitte which gives you work between college and Uni, then experience as you go through uni. Details are on the website. I think others in the big 4 also offer these oportunities, but competition is strong for places and most of the grads I have met on them are heading to Oxford, Cambridge or other very strong Unis

Well i am doing business management at uni and economics was such a better a level to prepare me for this..As rikbar said, people dont take business studies seriously.

I agree with the comments on Business Studies and Economics, the latter is certainly the more respected of the two subjects.

Accountancy A Level is also seen as pretty useless, it doesn't even skim the surface of the subject, whereas at least with Economics you get to learn some key concepts.

Is there no possibility of you doing a language?
