Well Sociology looks good to employees because it is regarded as a high Social Science which shows to them you have intense knowledge of the world around you and what is going on. Which shows you can work with a wide range and different types of clients and also it has different topics I find interesting like Poverty,Wealth,Family households,Sociologic Methods,Politics and many others which could support me in the long term in subjects I am thinking of taking like Economics & Politics.
It is also to me like a less pressured subject to get away from the harder subjects like Maths,Economics,Politics while all four subjects are considered traditional A-level subjects and not softer unaccepted ones by Cambridge & potentially top universties.
Amit
Sorry Amit, but Sociology is not well respected (and I think you mean employers, not employees?). It is all vague opinions and does not allow you to think for yourself (the only people allowed an opinion in Sociology are proven theorists), which is the polar opposite of what you need for a career in Finance!
I think the appeal to most people in taking Sociology at A Level is stated in your second paragraph - it is an easier option than the more traditional subjects. Universities are aware of this, and treat the subject accordingly.
From my vague memories (and a quick look on Facebook!), those that took Sociology at my school were the less ambitious pupils, and went on to do 'soft' subjects at universities.Gone ... or have I?0 -

What subjects would you recommend then for a Career in Accounting,Business & Finance?
I am keeping Economics & Maths for the win!
I just need another 2 subjects... Politics?0 -

I would go for Politics over Sociology. I still don't think that it is a difficult subject, but I think it is more relevant, and you might actually learn something that you can use in your future.
If you fast forward five/ ten years, and imagine yourself sat at a dinner party, or meeting clients in a social environment ... are you more likely to be discussing politics (diplomatically if with clients!), or Cohen's 'moral panic'* concept?

Well I think Economics,Mathematics,Politics do look more stronger than Accounting,Business,Mathematics to employeers? But I just need a 4th subject now.
Ive always had an interest in Economics & Mathematics along with them being related to my future, Ive had some interest in Politics in finding out why the government chooses to do something and how the politicians try to improve our country and make it more efficient.
I think I should keep Sociology because I find it interesting with the range of different topics and areas covered but I could use that FREE space to find a more academic subject? or maybe Accounting?0 -
seriously, dont bother with accounting. Even accounting firms prefer people with a maths or psychics degree from uni then people with accounting degrees, so dont start limiting yourself at a level! you could do maths, economics, sociology (since you are interested in it) and computing (not ICT) or politic or english literature as it will give u good essay writing skills for uni0

can i just say that you should really be talking about this with your parents and teachers as well. you sound like you really really need to find out more information and get more in depth advice on your personal situation. it also has to be based on what subjects you're good at and i also think it's very very early at pre-GCSE level to be making all your decisions based on a single career path (even though accounting, business and finance does probably cover most milkround type jobs!). it's all very planned and something about it makes me very uncomfortable. What subjects would you recommend then for a Career in Accounting,Business & Finance?

your posts show that you don't know much about it and these are decisions that are important - go spend some time with a careers advisor/teacher, or go look around the websites of the big 4 and see for yourself what they want. have a look on prospects or on other careers sites......... if you don't have the initiative to go get this information yourself, you aren't going to be the type of student that these companies want
(and asking strangers to pick your a level subjects doesn't count!) :happyhear0 -

To me that looks a good compromise between what you want to do out of pure interest and what will be a good academic grounding for you. I'd stick with those.
Wouldn't bother with accounting. Similarly to law, I've known people who did it at A level and found they had stuff they needed to 'unlearn'. Those four will give you a better range of options anyway if you change your mind in future.
Best of luck.“I could see that, if not actually disgruntled, he was far from being gruntled.” - P.G. Wodehouse0 -
Tbh A'levels such as Business and accounting are a bit of a joke, you'd be far better of doing economics (although maybe not by much) or a science as these are far better respected by Universities and employers. Forget what you think these A'levels offer you in preparation for Uni as you'll have far surpassed them within a month and if you're going to struggle without them then the course isn't for you.0
