Only got Sky Sports, Setanta & MUTV for the footie? Cancel for the summer to save ££s

  • I currently have the full package from SKY, including multiroom and SKY+ (although the SKY+ doesn't cost any extra monthly). This works out at £55 a month.

I had heard about phoning up and claiming about wanting away or to downsize but had never actually done anything about it, until this evening.

I re-read the MSE email and thought I'd give it a go.

I phoned SKY customer services and explained that money was tight and that I'd unfortunately have to cancel my Sports subscription and depending on what canceling the Movies would save me, would maybe cancel that too.

It didn't take long for the nice lady on the phone to see that I had the full shebang and hadn't ever been given/offered 'a deal'.

She was able to offer me my existing package for £15 less, for 3 months.

I accepted her kind offer and now have the same package for the next 3 months for £45 less than if I had just sat on my hands and did nothing.

Not going to break the bank but it's £45 better off in my back pocket.

    Cheers, P

    Hi!

Am trying to persuade hubby to cancel the sports package on our sky subscription but he wanted to know if the cost of sports will go up in August when he tries to renew it. Does anyone know if this is the case?

    Thanks, M

Personally I think their coverage of sport is pants at best and the picture quality average. Their customer service is appalling so I will not consider renewing (ever) [that is..if I can ever cancel].

setanta coverage is god awful. they always seem to have their camera miles away from the pitch.

  • Just rang Sky to downgrade taking out Sports and Movies, cutting cost from £45 to £21 which was not a problem, only we have SkyPlus and lady said that you are not able to watch anything sports or movies that has been "recorded" on Sky+ if downgrading, these will all be wiped off. Asked if any special offers, to be told "NO and they can't offer anything over the phone". Must be doing something wrong here!

I rang to cancel Setanta last week, ( as I rarely watch it anyway)

I had previously written to cancel , (recorded delivery which was confirmed as delivered) yet conveniently when I got through (which was within 5 mins) they had no record of my letter

Anyway they started the sales blurb of all these great pre season games etc etc and I jus tsaid no, wont be watching dont get time

offered me a £7.50 a month deal, which I said no to, and they straight away offered me a £5 a month deal, which I accepted

This is good value, as they will charge you a further month for cancellation, £9.99 so I have saved on 2 months viewing

Will probably still cancel in time as I just dont find the time to watch, just hope I can get through as easily

Is cancelling the direct debit for Setanta the best way to cancel?

Or is their any comeback from doing it this way? Breach of contract, Bank charges etc?

    Cheers
