I called sky to cancel everything just before Christmas stating that I now worked nights and couldn't watch what I was paying for. They offered me a free sky+ box and free installation - which I accepted.
I had no intention of cancelling and work days but loosing customers is a worry for them (especially when I mentioned Virgin Media!) so they'll do a lot to keep hold of people.

Phoning up to cancel the sports will work in the same way (as mentioned above) they'll drop the price or even give it you free for 3 months. It costs them nothing to keep on supplying you in the hope that you'll re-subscribe in a couple of months time.

I've heard, not sure how true though, the best time of the week to call is a Monday. Apparently they have a certain number of 'deals' a week they can give out. Worth a try anyway.

A great idea but if you are a Setanta subscriber you first have to get through their call centre to cancel. Contacted them this evening and you are put through from the main call handler (who cannot take your cancellation instruction) and left on hold, on hold (at 20p per min).

I have emailed them and contacted credit card to put account into dispute. Personally I think their coverage of sport is pants at best and the picture quality average. Their customer service is appalling so I will not consider renewing (ever) [that is..if I can ever cancel].

Have seen lots of other posts complaining about sentanta but do think people should be aware of difficulties they've had.

Has anyone ever succesfully taken them to small claims court! That would be fun!

I wanted to cancel my subscription today but just could not find any 'invitation' to do so anywhere. I was actually looking for a telephone number for such an action and failed to find one that sounded appropriate. I have been compelled to send an email on their email system, but have not received an acknowledgement yet. I am troubled by this lack of customer support option and I shall also think very hard before I consider re-subscribing.

In 2006 we cancelled Sports and Movie channels, then in the summer of 2007, we asked to have them back on.... WE HAD TO PAY £68 to have the two put back on! I dont want to call them, have them gone until August and then paying £68!
  • I phoned to cancel sky on Monday was told fine you cancellation has been processed, we have sky+, multiroom & sports package - I was not offered any deals of any sort - ended up calling back a few hours later cancelling the cancellation !!!! How come everyone else is getting good deals, I was polite said it was more than I was prepared to pay and he just said fine I'll cancel it for you !!!

Ive been trying to cancel for nearly 2 1/2 months, they dont respond to any form of contact, finally got thro by phone today only to be told I needed to write to yet a 3rd address to cancel - eh! wont be rejoining them next season, will go to pub to watch footie instead
I don't intend to write again. As I see it, what's the point in keep writing, if they haven't replied to what they've already received?

I'm glad I recognized the importance of paying by direct debit rather than continuous credit card authority, as this has allowed me to deny Setanta payment that is not due.

It occurs to me, that many of the customers Setanta are annoying, are probably football supporters taking a summer break- the same people that they'll need to attract next season, if they are to eventually become profitable.

In a matter of weeks, I think Setanta will be working twice as hard to win back the same customers!

I don't do this for the footie as I don't watch it but I do turn the Sky sports on and off depending on the England cricket schedule. Never had any problems doing so it just has to be on for at least 30 days at a time. My bill is adjusted accordingly each timeso sometimes I owe quite a bit other times I'm in credit depending when I change it compared to when the bill is due. Mind you, as with all these things, I frequently have to spend a good while on the phone to do it - I had thought they'd started being able to do the upgrades online but when I tried to do it for the start of the current series it wouldn't let me so that was another 20 mins on the phone.

  • Just called Sky to cancel sports over the summer and got the price reduced instead which is OK. Now only paying £4 per month extra for the sports on top of the standard price for 3 months. Customer Services were very helpful and was done and dusted in 10 minutes.

Prior to that I called Setanta and after 30 minutes on the phone didn't actually get to speak to anyone! Maybe I'll try tomorrow and cancel that completely.

I have just cancelled Sky Sports through the sky.com website. When you log in they only offer you the chance to upgrade your package (not downgrade) but if you use the 'Contact Us' option and explain the changes required it is carried out and they email you with the details of the new payments etc.

If you know what you want this is a quick, cheap and easy way of doing it; if you want to haggle then you'd better phone them!
