okcupid.com worked for me; I found my last LTR with someone I met through there, and I've had a few dates with people on there since it ended.

It's free, the people are interesting and the match ratings seem useful.

    Hello everyone,
Has anyone any stories - good or bad - about singles travel firms?
I am a 34-year-old single chap living near Bolton who would love to get away more but don't especially want to go alone. I have looked at brochures from some singles firms and they seem prohibitively expensive, what with supplements and such.
On a similar theme, I would be interested to learn of any singles groups/networks in Manchester/Bolton that members may have experiences with.
    Best wishes,
    MarkyMark

That is an excellent site, there is an in-built system where you can chat to them live via an MSN style thing..

.. it is FREE for the ladies!!

I'm either completely daft or it's not free for women. Somebody contacted me and I was not able to respond to them unless i joined. Therefore, I paid for 6 months and found that most of the people I contacted were 'free' members, ie those who could not contact you in return.

Sad to say it's not worked for me.

    Nooooooooooooooo you are right!!!

I meant www.mate1.com - which is totally FREE!!!

With this, people send you differing correspondence.. and you can see whether they are fully paid up members or not.

I used this site alot and found it to be the best out of hundreds.

    Try these:

https://www.lovestruck.com - this is free and based around where you work. I met someone from here and it hasn't worked out, but you may have more luck

https://www.girlsdateforfree.com - does what it says on the tin - sorry men - you have to pay! Not had any luck on this one.

http://app.whitelabeldating.com/ - this is in conjunction with More magazine. I've had a lot of messages on here and made a few friends from all over the country, and it's only £10 per month to get full membership. Also, you can get 7 days free membership for you and a friend if you refer someone.

Keep me updated on how you get on :)

Don't know what type of holidays you're into but the more adventure/travel type holidays usually have a mixture of singles, friends and couples on them. Try firms such as Explore, Exodus or Imaginative Traveller or if you have any sports or hobbies such as walking, mountain biking or sailing there are lots of specialist firms. These aren't specifically singles holidays but I've met a couple of ex-boyfriends this way. If you are willing to share a room (with someone of the same sex) you can avoid the single supplement.

Anyone in London can join the Facebook group 'Single in London' at http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=2226613809. It's got a really lively community (currently around 7000 members) and they run real-life events too - usually for a couple of quid. They do a monthly pub quiz where you put a pound in the pot and the winning team takes all so you could actually make money while meeting other singles. It's a not-for-profit vernture and a complete bargain.

    xx

Have just come back from Mark Warner's Club in Kos - there are times when there is no single supplement. Free tennis (11 courts), windsurfing, sailing - everyone very friendly and wanting to mix in. A couple of large tables for single people or anyone else who wants to mix in at dinner time. Excellent price at the moment. Just paid £399 for 1 week incl half board. Beware of going there with an organised singles group eg Spice, as there is a hefty mark-up on the price. You would be sure to meet up with the members anyway if you were there at the same time as them. They are very organised with kid's clubs and childcare, so a great option for single parents too.

Spice is an activity club, but has had more than it's fair share of success in matching up partners in love. More so than most dating agencies. Probably because the emphasis is on engaging in fun activities rather than meeting someone. Members are generally between 30 and 60 and there are regional groups dotted about the UK. Full details at http://www.spiceuk.com.

Not free to join but they often have 3 months free trial memberships on offer. You do have to pay for individual events which range from evenings, weekends to full holidays. Choose from the extensive range in the monthly newsletter or see the website.
Where else could you do a Fire Eating & Fire Breathing workshop, drive a single seater racing car, or a rally car or a tank, or a bus, or a fire engine or even a combine harvester! Ever wanted to fly a plane or a helicopter or do aerobatics in a military jet? How about white water rafting (either in Britain or down the Grand Canyon), scuba diving, water skiing? Or abseiling, caving, climbing, walking or biking?

Don’t worry if the adrenaline events are not your cup of tea, we have workshops on just about everything, from Flirting to positive thinking, Self Hypnosis to Homeopathy and even repairing your PC. How about a regular sports schedule, or just a great social timetable for meals out, cinema and theatre visits, parties and get-togethers. We have something for everyone! And not forgetting weekend breaks and holidays to exotic locations like New Zealand, Australia, Nepal, Borneo, South Africa, Vietnam, India, Kenya, China, Cuba, Egypt and a full skiing program to France, Italy, Andorra, Canada and the USA.
