I think the sun's back out.

The OSPS deal is better than you say!

They give you £240 cashback with the 3510i on the Orange OVP Vodafone Anytime 200 as well as 3 months at half price.

So 3 months at half price is 3 x £15 plus 9 x £30 less £240 makes a total of £75 to pay for the full year.

    Smartasss -

Just for the record (purely informational, nothing personal)

    (1) jo3uk was simply quoting the deal as 12 months 1/2 price + £115 (now known to be £105 due to an arithmetic error that I pointed out) in order to compare it with my list of 12 month 1/2 price offers on higher spec handsets - in reality it was always 3 months 1/2 price + £240 cashback on the OSPS site so nothing's actually changed there. Work it out...his deal also works out at £75.

    (2) While OSPS is currently the cheapest on the plain vanilla 200 minute anytime tariff, there are cheaper options available with different combinations of minutes and texts elsewhere:

    £42 on OVP Anytime 100
    £60 on OVP O2 100 + 100 SMS
£60 quid on Your Plan 120 (also includes 120 evening minutes)

See my post on the referrers board for more details.

yes...you could change tariff after 6 months but that only works out cost effective if the tariff you trade down to is suitable for your needs. Trading down for the saving on the line rental alone is not advised unless you never intend to use the contract again and just wish to sit out the reminder of the minimum term at minimum cost. Sometimes people who suggest trading down seem to miss this point.

The tariff you suggest the OP could trade down to is definitely a good value one but it's worth noting that it is an off-peak same network tariff only. For offpeak useage to all networks, I would suggest either OVP Everyone 200 OffPeak @ £15/month or OVP Everyone 500 Offpeak @ £20/month. For anytime XNET useage I would suggest OVP Everyone 100 for £21/month. If your useage is so high that none of these options is sensible then there is no benefit in trading down the tariff at all...in fact you might, under some circumstances, be better trading up the tariff to a more expensive one.

  • Hi Shona
what's OVP? How can Orange be Vodafone?

Orange do tariffs to match their competitors (voda, o2 and t-mob) tariffs - they call them OVP (Orange Value Promise).

So Orange give you the equivalent of the voda tariff via the Orange network.

You can read about it on the orange site HERE

Just had a quick surf of the OSPS site and cannot find the £240 cashback deal on the Nokia 3510i mentioned above.

Can someone point me in the right direction?

    Hi RM,

Thanks – I did originally find the page but didn’t expect the deal to be hidden behind the free gift graphic.

I did a similar deal with CPW last December.

Are OSPS an OK company, I’ve not heard of them before.

Just browsed their T&C’s.  Do you know the specifics for claiming the cashback?
Their T&C’s just say contact them for further details.

I noticed that if you do not want their insurance, it’s down to you to cancel it before the 3 months free offer period expires otherwise £4.99, will automatically be direct debited from your bank account each subsequent month.  The same applies to their technical support offer otherwise a further £6.99, will automatically be direct debited from your bank account each quarter.

Forget and this will add a further £72.87, to your annual spend.
    [£4.99 x 9 + £6.99 x 4]

They give you 3 coupons to send in with relevant bills.

    You get 3 x £80 cashbacks after months 4,8 + 12.

    Hi SA,

Thanks – OSPS T&C’s say that you must remain on the appointed Orange tariff for a minimum of 6 months.

Am I right to assume that you can change to a cheaper tariff from month 7 and still be able to cash their £80 vouchers in months 8 and 12?

    Good question.

In essence, on teh surface the T&Cs suggest you can. However, it's also possible that they may simply be quoting the Orange terms (as Orange won't let you downgrade within this period at any rate).

However, as OSPS can be sticklers for detail, they might (unreasonably) choose to refuse subsequent payments because you are no longer on the original tariff. If that happens, you may be well within your rights to make them pay up, but would you want the fight?

It might be sensible to phone them and ask explicitly what they look for to decide whether a payment is due when you send your paperwork in. i.e. do they look at the tariff beyond 6 months?

In this instance, I think that only the horses mouth itself will do.

Update: having now looked through the thread that Smartasss linked to, it seems that subsequent payments are not affected by changing tariff after 6 months as people who have done this with previous deals have still received all their cashback. Additionally, someone pointed out that when you fill in your cashback claim you should pay special attention to the question asking which tariff you took the deal on - you should fill in the ORIGINAL tariff here, not the current one.

  • @ Fastflys

    Yes that's ok.

This is what OSPS say about it on their website:
    Q. When can I change my tariff?
    A. When you placed your order with One Stop Phone Shop, you were offered an unbeatable discount based on your choice of phone and tariff. Part of your agreement is that you will remain on your chosen tariff for the following periods:

Three, Vodafone, Orange and O2 6 months
    T-Mobile 11 months (6 months Pre-April 2004)

After these periods you are free to move from your original tariff without penalty.

Failure to adhere to this agreement will render you liable for the difference in cost between the purchase price and the price the phone would have been had you bought it on the tariff you switched to.
