Christmas - bah, humbug!

The tree isn't a pagan thing, it was introduced by the Germans I think in the 18th Century.
I disagree that having a tree in Church on Christmas day is a bad thing. It has been part of tradition in the country for a very long time. IMO churches in different countries should be adopting some of the local customs. If only some other religions would do the same?
I think the present showing on Christmas Day is not too bad either (it happens in my Church), I think it highlights that we use Christmas as a family occasion.
Any of the tat that is in shops however may as well be bought now and put on next month's bonfire.0 -
Louise - ((((((HUGS))))))) It will be hard for you this Xmas, I know that.
For me, first my lovely grandad (died on his birthday, just to make things worse), then my much loved gran (died almost on the anniversary of grandad's death), THEN my Dad died in my arms of cancer, THEN OH's mother died after a very protracted debilitating illness - it's all been quiet for a couple of years but I dread the so-called festive period looming...
I went on our last year's works Xmas party (it wasn't so terrible but it was the first Ihave been on for years) and may do so this year, but generally I just tell everone I am not interested, they soon get the message and true friends are still friends (they bring me a goodie bag and bottles of wine!).... they understand and don't push it, IMHO the rest aren't worth bothering about.
