Methinks also there are some people out there who enjoy telling you it's been posted before, so won't we be taking away their pleasure???
That is unfair on the compers who help out BGs by alerting them to dupes.
And help out fellow compers by trying to prevent them from disqualifying themselves.
It's never nice being told that you've posted a dupe. I should know... :rotfl:Al Mac Appreciation Society No. 188

I don't agree sorry i can't think of anyone that takes great pleasure in pointing out a comp has already been posted:)Darren0

So I certainly didn't get any pleasure from breaking off from entering comps, doing a search, posting a reply on the thread, and then sending a pm - the fewer of these that need doing the better as far as I'm concerned, and as for the BG's with all those merges to do......Al Mac Appreciation Society (AMAS) member # 6½

I'm good at searching, I search the main part of the URL.
e.g timeout
or screenrush
if there are loads of results I search the main part of the URL plus the answer or the prize.
E.g timeout+ipod
or maturetimes+vitamins
or screenrush+beckham
If the site has a - in it, e.g. www.music-news.com
I search music+news
or music+news+kooks
I always search words over 3 letters, over 4 if possible, and do a number of searches (but usually main part of the URL is sufficient), the answer is almost always in the post so that's a good one to search. I rarely have searching problems. Only occassionally if a comp has been posted within the last hours or so and it doesn't show up0 -
Sometimes search fails but most of the time it finds the comp if it's already posted.
There are some good search tips here though so thanks everyone.

Sometimes, especially if time is at a premium I find it a bit tedious and time consuming to point out a dupe and then send a merge request, especially when I've seen a few duplicates posted within a very short time. No doubt the BGs find it tedious too.
The only difference it would make to me if people entered twice would be to increase my own chances of winning but that's not what this board is about. It's about finding and posting competitions for all to enter, and hopefully win, and enjoying the successes that are posted. :beer:0 -

I search music+news
How does one search for exact text where there is a non-alphanumeric character in the string, e.g. for "music-news"? Putting double quotes around the text, like I just did, doesn't work. Many tx to all who post constructively in all the forums!:beer:0 -
