I appreciate how frustrating it must be for dedicated compers and particularly board guides to have so many duplicates. But everyones computer skills are different and I think some are just over enthusiastic.
As a noobie comper I am trying to improve my skills by posting obscure (easy to search) ones. But I notice that a lot of the better ones, when I do the necessary through search, are already here. Top marks to all for finding so many :T :T
I am an experienced computer user but am dyslexic and have to take my time, so as not to post gibberish. OK some might think my posts are gibberish anyway
Winning will necessary be down to luck, but for me an important feature about this board is the community spirit and great laugh reading some of the posts
So please forgive some of us the noobie mistakes we just want to join in the fun0 -

well said
i have seen a couple of posts today where a "noobie" has been made to look bad by a member with high post count, yes it is a pain with double sometimes even triple postings of same comp ect but just like has been said not all "noobies" understand forums but will in time
ps. you all do a great job was just having my sayIf you dont like me remember its mind over matter, I dont mind and you dont matter0 -
I have to disagree, i really think, especially as i still think im newish that MOST msers help each other, of course a few are gonna be funny, its like a workplace and u always get a few funny gits in the office. This thread isn't up to get at anyone its just to point out that duplicate posts are happening too often, and can invalidate your entry, so people take it quite seriously in the context of comping.
No-one is out to offend, i promise u that xxxx#JusticeForGrenfell0 -
I search the same way as catz - it generally works for me - the only ones it doesn't pull up are newly posted within a couple of hours ones.
And yeah it would be easier to ingnore dups, as it is time consuming to find, post and pm a dup, but we all need to help out the bg's when we can!
I also hate the phrase 'i searched but didn't find....' - just a personal bugbear!!Jo x2007:£5181.09 2008: £6619.70 2009: £4284.49 2010: £5213.14 2011: £4980.62 2012: £3188.52

How does one search for exact text where there is a non-alphanumeric character in the string, e.g. for "music-news"? Putting double quotes around the text, like I just did, doesn't work.
I search music+news without any quotes, it brings up anything with the words music and news in it. Not sure you can search things with non-alphanumeric text, that's whay I search the separate words
Didn't know about the news.com - thanks hjb0 -

I have an email dilemma. Last year I signed up for a free email address but unfortunately yesterday I had an email from them to say they will be stopping the free service on 20th June. There is a paid service option but I don't want to pay as I have another email address from my ISP that I can use.
My dilemma is that I have registered with loads of competitions using the email address. I spent most of yesterday visiting websites updating my registration details to my new email addresss however I am having problems with the following sites as I cannot find where to edit my registration details:
Closer - I sent an email to technical support but it bounced straight back. I've now emailed another email address from the site. Waiting to hear back
Mumknowsbest
Ministry of Sound
Can anyone see where on these sites i need to go to edit my details???
Hopefully I won't miss too many WEM's!
Thanks:T*Thanks to all who posts comps * :j0 -
Sorry, can't help with the online changes as I can't find anywhere either! Have you tried the contact us pages? (they are very small links at the bottom of the page, usually really small writing!). Other than that I can't help! I'm sure someone has better advice though!Thank you to everyone who posts comps! :A
I would like to be lucky,healthy & happy in 2020! :T0 -
Hi. Does anyone know whether it is better to use a web based email (hotmail, google etc) or one from your own ISP when entering comps?0
