Perfectly safe - I'd get nowhere without it.

there are so many ideas on here couldn't they be put in a list in a sticky, eg

    1. search with the url
    2. search with one or two important words (eg tix for Elvis = elvis)
    3. search with .....

I'd find it useful to have them listed and it may be easier for me and newbies to understand and follow.

They could be included in the guide that I think Velvetglove's still compiling.

Yeps sorry folks - work had the audacity to send me out to do some Regional Training for 4 weeks  so I've been working down in Yeovil & Bournemouth & when I got back at weekends was too busy sorting out stuff I wasn't here to do in the week that I didn't have any spare time to spend on the Guide.

I promise it will be done soon though as they don't have any other plans to send me out in the field for a while & more & more the things in the Guide are cropping up on here so I really want to get it done asap to help ease the burden somewhat! Please bear with me just a little longer & I hope to have a shiny pretty thing for us to use :)

I already have the vast majority of the Guide in outline & did the search part a while back :) Here is a preview of what is to come (subject of course to approval from diva :) ):

How do I search to see if a comp has been posted?
On the Sticky Search thread here scroll down to the Advanced Search section.

If you look at the screenshot, look at the parts labelled up with numbers: 1, 5 & 6.

In part 1 (keywords), take the main part of a competition page address (URL) & type it in there

eg, if http://www.goodtoknow.co.uk/competitions/show/id/2704 is the page the competition is on -
    use keyword: goodtoknow.co.uk

It is advisable to only use the main part of the competition URL as sometimes comps do change location!

If that brings back lots of threads then perhaps use a word that loosely describes the prize too
    eg, goodtoknow watch
    to narrow it down slightly.
    .
In part 5 (search in Forums) scroll down the list & find Competitions Time
    .
In part 6 (Also search in child forums) make sure that it is ticked - this means it will also search in the Game Over Forum & Regular Competitions Forum (as some comps are moved to Game Over because they don't have an end date in the thread title).
    .
Click on the 'Search Now' button & it will bring back a list of results. Read through the list carefully to see if the comp has already been posted.

This still needs a bit of tweaking but Searching along with heaps of other stuff will be appearing in the Guide. :) Hope this is the kind of thing we need!
Sad because you don't know what to do? Comping question? Take a look in the Comping Guide to find out
