When the thanks system goes bad!

I have to say, I consider it a bit rude to post a new thread about something which has been asked ans answered before, without checking the first one, or at the very least making reference to it.
I would not put the poster on ignore and would not even think about mentioning the lack of thanks, but I would point it out.
I don't know how similar the posts actually were but, seeing as you didn't know if your query had been answered, you could have said something like, ' asked this before but making it clearer this time' or 'know this has been posted before but ...' - that kind of thing.
It just acknowledges (with no real effort required on your part) that you know people may have taken the time to respond but you haven't checked back yet, for whatever reason.
The thanks is a different issue really and the poster made a good point look stupid by focusing on the wrong point iyswim?0 -
Good plan - we could then have a whole spectrum of thankyou options, from "Thankyou darling from the bottom of my heart, I'll love you forever", through something middling like "Who cares? ... I don't", all the way down to "You miserable old git(ess) - WMFT?!". Plus other snazzy features no doubt. Random thankyou phrases maybe? Oh and of course the most essential one of all - "I wish I hadn't thanked you now! Give it me back!"
That's my fave one, cos I often press the thanks button instead of the quote one, when having a [STRIKE]row[/STRIKE] discussion with someone:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:"You can't stop the waves, but you can learn to surf"

i'm all for just giving the benefit of the doubt, rather than the poster in the thread the OP linked to having a hissy fit for the most trivial of reasons!:happyhear0 -
I've sometimes clicked the 'Thanks' button in error when I actually meant to click on the 'quote' one. It would be nice if you could withdraw your 'Thanks' in such cases.0

I agree. The thanks facility should be open to editing for a few minutes, precisely to allow correction. I have often thanked people when I didn't want to so it looked like I agreed when I didn't, and it looked like I was keeping the boot in both camps.:o
And I so hate posting "I didn't mean to thank you..."Be careful who you open up to. Today it's ears, tomorrow it's mouth.0 -
When the thanks system goes bad!
It's the cash prize at the end of each month that ruins it .....
What ...None of you know about the £50.00 cash from MSE for the most thanks gathered each month ..
As usual ..If my information has been helpful ..Please hit the thanks button0 -
The thanks button is used in very different ways on the various boards on this forum, so your thanks count varies depending on which boards you regularly frequent. Take this thread here where the OP has thanked each poster just for posting "Well done". I have not noticed this before but I assume that it must happen frequently, which I find quite bizarre! I think that any posters expecting the thanks button to be pressed for posting on a thread or to be put on the ignore list are very sad and posting for the wrong reasons.
No thanks expected. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0
