    Oh yes indeedy!

I've been nodding along with lots of these! :T

In fact I've got a bit of a head of righteous indignation going now!

I hate it when people tut at me because my house is scruffy. (I need a new front door, and the outside needs pointing and painting, and we need new windows etc.)

When I say we're saving up to have it all done (with a silent "after the debt is paid off") people say "But what are you going to do between now and then?!" and "ooh I can't think of anything worse!" and my personal favourite:" What will people think?!"

I hate it when people spend my money for me - by assuming that I'll contribute whatever arbitrary amount has been decided towards a present or something "and whatever's left over we'll spend on drinks".

I hate it when people make me feel like a rotten excuse for a human being when I say we can't come to their wedding because it'll cost us £1000 in accomodation, clothes to fit in with their themed dress code, gifts and travel.

I hate it when people make me feel like a rotten excuse for a human being when I say we can't come to their birthday because they're having it in an expensive (£60 a head plus drinks) restaurant.

I hate it when people say "Ooh I wouldn't have the patience / time for all that. Aren't you lucky that you're good at those type of things!" about all our extra jobs, eBay and mystery shopping etc.

And I really hate it when people tell me I'm so lucky that my son is sensible with money and pays towards the household bills. "Mine's always cadging cash off ME!" they say. "It's a shame you're so dead set on him paying his way in the house though cos if he wasn't then maybe he could afford a nicer car."

Cos that's what's really important here.

OOh thanks Jak - I feel so much better for that!

    Love Jacks xxx :D

I'd forgotten that one! Some people at work think they've got the right to tell me that "everyone's putting in £5" for a collection, or "we're doing a kitty, & everyone's putting in £20". I just say "Are they really? What a good job then that I've always liked being different from other people", put in what I feel I can afford, sign the card & walk off. :D

What makes people think that you want to put in a collection for every person anyway? If I get on well with you, I don't mind putting in, but just because we both use the same door to get in the building each day doesn't mean I have a duty to put anything into a collection for you. If I think saying "Goodbye & good luck" is enough, then it should be. Dealing with debt makes you determined & discerning as well as disciplined. :D

I hate it when I go for meal with friends and colleagues and the bill is split x amount of ways. Normally I wouldn't mind but as I always have soft drinks and choose a cheap option from the menu, my share often comes to more than I've had because I've had to pay for everyone elses booze!

My Mum expects me to pay for things when we go out because I earn more than her. This is true but I also have a house to pay for (she lives with someone who pays all her bills so only has to buy shopping!) and she only works part time through choice. I don't mind treating her but I won't do it when it's expected. This is my first annonyance.

My second is waste. There is just no need to waste things and most people would save a lot of money by simply thinking 'do I need this?' or 'can it be put to another use' instead of buying and discarding so much.

I bet that if you said at the start - I'm paying for myself as I don't want to spend much (suck it up if you're bothered) - there will be at least one other person who says they will join you!

This is the best thread. Oh, I know just what the people who'se families expect them to have their hands in their pockets for everything.

In my family the other part has spent their money on cars, booze, food, horses, horses, horses - no wonder they've nothing left!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

hi all, been reading thru your thread with great interest. i agree with loads you have all said. have always hated waste even when i wasnt in debt, it just really drives me mad. what i did notice in particular tho when i was on holiday 2 years ago in usa (brother lives there so cheap hol!) was this, whilst we in uk all strive to keep up with the jones etc etc "consignment" stores are big business over there. a consignment store is basically like a charity shop and i was taken there by my sister in law even tho she and my brother have a wonderful life and good jobs. theres no shame in it like some over here. on the other hand they arent very good at recycling. she also used coupons for money off like mad. but my biggest bug bear at moment has to be how much more expensive everything has got lately.!!!! aaagghhh!!!
waddy - from this:eek: to this :j (hopefully????)

The last time I went out for a meal with colleagues I only had a main course as I don't really like puddings or starters and everybody else had 3 courses and wine. I ordered a big bottle of fizzy water for myself and everyone else nicked it! I think I only had one glass! Then I was made to feel guilty when I said I'd just pay for mine so I ended up going into the kitty with them. My meal came to about a tenner but I ended up having to put £20 into the kitty.
