October Grocery Challenge

Forgot to say that my last weekend's shop was rather successful, coming in under budget at around £40. I should have enough meat in the house to last another month, so once again I should come in under budget with any luck.Baby Year 1: Oh dear...on the move

This is my first month, with a budget of £380. Just had a tot up and I've spent 136.78, so I think I'm doing ok. The only problem is I'm just using what's in the cupboards and buying extras to make each meal. I haven't done a menu plan so I'm planning daily and shopping daily. Once my cupboards are empty I'm going to be stuffed. I am more aware checking prices etc, and today I've made chocolate muffins and banana muffins instead of buying shop bought. Does it actually work out cheaper making cakes/muffins, once you work out the cost of flour, sugar eggs etc? I'd say they taste nicer but in my house I'm not too sure.Look after the pennies and the £££s will look after themselves0

This is my first ever post, so excuse me if this comes out a complete mess!!!
I cannot believe that any of you can stick to the budgets you have put together - there's only me, my hubby and my step daughter at weekends and our usual grocery bill is about £80/week and thats not including the toiletries, dog and cat food.
I think I need to take a serious look at my spending - no wonder I'm always skint!
Well done to you all - you certinly put me to shame. :T0 -
Hiya
You're post is fine
Just remember to take it in easy stages as you adjust your budget. It all should be a painless progress and be kept within your own personal comfort level. If you start off too hard on yourself there's a chance you'll be discouraged and give up.
If it does, or you just want a bit of support - just post in and we'll all rally round.Hi, I'm a Board Guide on the Old Style and the Consumer Rights boards which means I'm a volunteer to help the boards run smoothly and can move and merge posts there. Well I've completed this months grocery challenge and was £12.93 under budget. My budget was £300, (£75 per week), which seems quite high compared to some, but has been lowered from £80 - £90 per week. I also bought loads of meat, and Christmas food presents, (wine, chocs and biscuits) so quite pleased.
Next months will be more of a challenge, as I need to get 5 weeks worth of shopping from the same budget. Challenging, but Im sure we wont starve!0 -
Here goes......this week's spend came to £72.28! However, I bought 2 BIG boxes of washing powder & a big pack of nappies (for nights for DS1) & these will both last me well into (if not all through) November aswell!!
One week's shopping left to do this month & have £63.65 left. Should be able to do easily ( I hope!)
This month's total therefore £186.35!!!!!:D
Hope everyone is managing to stay on target!!20p Saver Club #33 60p/£100

I don't seem to be doing as well
I only have £9 left until the 1st. I do have quite a bit in terms of basics, but fruit, milk and maybe a box of cereal or two, i don't know if i'm gonna make it.

Don't beat yourself up. If you've done better than last month as you work towards your target - count it as a win.

Well, I'm slightly over Budget, but have enough food in to last at least until next week (and due to accidentaly ordering too much cereal, have enough left to last into the middle of next month). I also have some leftover Stew in the Freezer, and things left in the cupboards as well, which is really unusual for me. Going to try much harder next month.0
