Just spoke to Personal banking manager at the branch who opened the account. She advised that there is a note on the account for her to contact someone. Am now waiting for her to get back to me and shed some light!

Hopefully she will be able to give an explanation ( fingers crossed!)

That's not ignorance, that's laziness. Forum search is there for a reason. ;)

That's nice!! Instead of taking 5 seconds to answer the question you had to be rude. What is the deal with this board anyway? I have never seen such unnecessary judgement in my life than what exists here. It seems to be all about those who think they are more financially savvy telling everyone else how crap and irresponsible they are in their finances. Isn't the whole point to help people? He asked a genuine question that could have been easily answered, and instead gets this. Again nice!!

While I agree with you about unnecessary judgement (a lot of posters here are too quick to judge someone - yes, some people are irresponsible, but deal with the issue at hand first), this question seriously has been done to death.

If I had any kind of inclination I'd set up a website for this sort of thing.

Can anyone help me shed some lighton my situation?

Last weekend I opened a cash card account with Lloyds TSB. It was their standard cash card account which said was available to people with bad credit, but not for bankrupts or people with fraud issues. I have niether of these just a couple of defaults and 3 CCJ's.
I went directly into the branch and the account was approved and opened. I was given my details and 2 days later as sent my new Visa debit card.documents etc.
Then, this morning I receive a letter from LTSB saying that they have 'reviewed' the account and they are no longer able to offer it to me. The account was obviously in credit and when I called nobody could give me an explanation as to why they ahd closed it!! Neither could they give me any contact details as to who else to speak to. They said it had come from a central department and that they were just follwoing nistructions. THey couldn't even give me a perhaps answer!
Now I am very confused and in desperate need of a basic cash account to pay my wages into. I thought I fitted the criteria and now I am perplexed.
Has anyone else had similar experiences and if so, do you know why they have closed the account after only 1 week?

Please helpa s I am not sure where to go from here!

    thanks:confused:

Just go open a natwest step A/C......THERE IS NO CREDIT CHECK

THanks to everyone who has given me some consrtuctive helpful advice. For those who have patronized me and judged me, please note that I am very new to this site and only heard about it from TV. I have never posted before. i am unfamiliar with what has been covered etc and thought I would ask my question in the hopes that those who had genuine advice and help would reply and those who hadn't would just read and move on. If you have got the time to write negative things then surely you have the time to be nice? If not then why not direct your help somewhere which interests you and soes not upset people who are already in worrying/upsetting situations.
Life is not black and white and I'm sure there are plenty of people on here who shouldn't throw stones whilst they are living in their own glass houses!

Thanks again to those who have been lovely and helpful. I have much food for thought now and have some options to try. It is nice to be able to share issues and know that you are not alone!

apt23 hope that you get your bank account with a bank sorted out and I am sorry that you have had a number of comments that were unhelpful.
I am new to this website too and just like you I found out about it via TV and I can say, with thanks to everyone who has given me advice that most of the users on here are VERY helpful, it is just sad that you had a few not so helpful comments.
With regards credit checks, most banks do credit checks even for basic bank accounts, this is just to check your ID and if you have a CCJ etc as you said, but the bank has the right to refuse any application for any reason and does not have to give a reason why, you could appeal to TSB about your account.
I would highly recommened that you try Barclays cash account or Natwest step account, try Natwest if you want a basic account with a debit card.
Hope this helps and I can only again say most people on here from what I have seen are very helpful.:D

    Goodluck with the account!!!

the best prepaid card you can get at the moment IMO is this one: https://www.extremecred.com/, it has no transaction fees and no monthly fees.
