Refused for basic Cash Card account!!

Can anyone help me shed some lighton my situation?

Last weekend I opened a cash card account with Lloyds TSB. It was their standard cash card account which said was available to people with bad credit, but not for bankrupts or people with fraud issues. I have niether of these just a couple of defaults and 3 CCJ's.
I went directly into the branch and the account was approved and opened. I was given my details and 2 days later as sent my new Visa debit card.documents etc.
Then, this morning I receive a letter from LTSB saying that they have 'reviewed' the account and they are no longer able to offer it to me. The account was obviously in credit and when I called nobody could give me an explanation as to why they ahd closed it!! Neither could they give me any contact details as to who else to speak to. They said it had come from a central department and that they were just follwoing nistructions. THey couldn't even give me a perhaps answer!
Now I am very confused and in desperate need of a basic cash account to pay my wages into. I thought I fitted the criteria and now I am perplexed.
Has anyone else had similar experiences and if so, do you know why they have closed the account after only 1 week?

Please helpa s I am not sure where to go from here!

thanks:confused:

Did you give false information on the application?

No, not that I am aware of?!!

If I go into the branch will they be able to tell me why this has happened?

If there is an error will I be able to resolve it and get the account back on track??

    thanks:cry:

It may because the branch did not send in your ID to HQ, this has happend before.

  • Apparently lots of banks have "basic" accounts which anyone can get. I would just try HSBC, Natwest, or whichever you prefer. I'm sure they'll give you one. Good luck! :)

THanks - but feel a bit 'jittery' now incase it is my past credit history coming back to haunt me. If I try them, all for basic cash accounts am I going to get penalised further with my credit history.

If it was the bank not forwarding the ID would this not show up on the notes on the account?

thanks so much again - am very anxious!

The Co-Op cashminder is pretty easy to get I think.

Failing that, there are a few of the prepaid maestro cards that you can get wages paid straight onto. Might do the trick while you're waiting to get something more permanent sorted?

Sorry to show my financial ignorance but what's a pre-paid maestro card and where do you get them from? What are the fees/charges like on these?

    THanks again

That's not ignorance, that's laziness. Forum search is there for a reason. ;)

Mmme LTSB, well on their banking literature it also states, you should be able to get a basic account; provided No history of fraud and disharged from bankruptcy. I applied and got turned down!
Even their literature is misleading! Try Co op cashminder or another good account is Yorkshire Bank's Readycash account. You even get a proper Maestro card:j
A very good feature is their online banking,it is right up to date, you buy something in a shop, it's on straight away.
If you apply for the Co-op's cashminder their transactions can take a while to show up, so best to write it all down.
