It's not the procedure that worries me it's the extra strong laxatives you have to take the day before.
Really....DON'T worry, just be prepared!!!!
I was scared too, so each time I had to take my picolax, I immediately headed for the loo, and just waited....not for too long mind youLOL......for the event to happen. It just flows out!!!LOL In between the morning and evening doses, you'll probably need to go to the loo several times, but it doesn't just "happen" without warning, ie. you'll have enough time to get to the loo!!! But I'd recommend that you stay at home, near a loo, over the two days that you have to take the picolax.
I also decided that the less I took in, the less I'd have to dispense with...food that is....so I didn't take up their suggestions of what to eat, but fasted instead...yeh, I know not everyone's cup of tea/idea of fun!!!LOL....but it worked a treat, with less and less to evacuate over the two days!!! By the time I was weighed in at the hospital, I was the lightest I've ever been in adult-hood...a GREAT way to start any weightloss diet!!!LOL

I've not had a colonoscopy, but I had a flexible sigmoidoscopy which doesn't go as far. But I hear with the colonoscopy you get some drugs that make you drowsy but with the flexi sig I had nothing and I don't want to scare anyone but it was the most painful thing I've had done. When I read the leaflet they gave me, it said I could have gas and air but when I was there and I asked for it, they said I didn't need it! I would refuse to have it done again unless I could have something for the pain.Baby Giz born 6/2/110

I was offered a pain killer mixed with a sedative....which I took willingly, but you have to have someone who will stay with you over the next 24 hours or you will be denied this!! After the procedure the sedative effects vanished VERY quickly, and personally I didn't need anyone to stay with me, although my friend did come and pick me up from the hospital!
The other main thing that can cause discomfort is the air that is pumped into you so that the camera/flexi-tube can be easily manovered!!
Sorry to hear that your flexible sigmoidoscopy was a PITA (excuse the pun) gizmodo! I too had one of these a few years ago, and never felt a thing!!! Shows how different we all are.....as are the doctors who carry out these procedures too....and how varied our responses are!!!
Keep your chins up Rikki and Barneysmom...it will soon be a distant memory!!!

When I saw the consultant he said the appointment would be within six weeks. My original appointment was only five weeks.

Lovely doctor and some very nice nurses, we had quite a giggle.
I chose to have no sedation so although a little uncomfortable we could talk and laugh all the way through. Interesting viewing.
The cup of coffee and the two digestive biscuits afterward were very welcome.£2 Coins Savings Club 2012 is £4.............................NCFC member No: 00005.........
