Never again without FULL General Anaesthetic0 -
To try and clarify confusion between endoscopy and colonoscopy, Endoscopy is the collective name for the procedure of being examined with a camera. When it goes into the stomach it's called a Gastroscopy, and in the other end it's called a Colonoscopy.
I have Crohn's but fortunately I've only ever had one procedure of eachSealed Pot Challenge #817 £50 banked0 -

Marshallka - all the best for tomorrow. I have had this done twice - once three years ago and just last Wednesday. Last week I opted not to have any sedation, because I wanted to drive myself home afterwards and I was just fine. The procedure is not dignified at all but I can honestly say that it was not painful. It is a little uncomfortable to start with but once they were "in" it was okay. The worst part was the wind afterwards and the effects of the prep seemed to last for a couple of days. Hope it all goes well for you. I had a polyp removed three years ago and didn't feel a thing.Jane

i got a colonoscopy on te 18th september also due to crohns and after reading this thread, i have to say i am dreading the prep the worst as i will also be with the farairies when they do the procedure."An Ye Harm None, Do What Ye Will":j0

I had it done a few years ago and it was unpleasant even with sedation, although they did go really far up as it was investigating Crohns. My colleagues husband had one recently and he didn't have sedation as they forgot to tell him beforehand and he drove to the hospital, so they did it without. Apparently he said he'd never have one again without some form of sedation. :eek:0

Pukka, it is most likely to be something like IBS, but if you have had a relative with bowel cancer then you should have regular screening to be on the safe side. See your doctor ASAP, and reassre yourself, it´s easy to imagine the worst, especially with your family history.
Regarding colonoscopies, I have had several, and the last was the worst, not the procedure itself, but coming round. They knocked me out as I was having tubes in both ends, and I don´t react well to anaesthetics. On previous occasions, I found that the worst bit was the anticipation. Yes, it´s undignified having a tube stuck up your bum, and being inflated with air is uncomfortable and makes you want to fart sooooooooooo bad, but the procedure wasn´t that bad, even without sedation.0
