Anyone had a colonoscopy?????

I am due to have a colonoscopy soon and wondered if anyone had one recently. I went for one about near on 20 years ago and have things changed.

Not unless your bum has moved:D
Who I am is not important. What I do is.

LOL. I can't really remember what it was like and most of all if it hurts.

I have one every year, procedures do vary slightly in different units, but mine haven't changed greatly in the 20 years I have been 'enjoying' the experience! Anything particular you are wondering about?

I don't really find them painful-more uncomfortable. I always take the muscle relaxant they offer though, went without on one occasion around 10 years ago when they forgot to attatch the iv and found that a bit 'much'. I actually dread the prep more than the procedure itself,it just seems such a faff!

The preparation is horrible, the procedure is fine if you are 'out of it'. Ensure you have enough sedation so that you're away with the fairies. Make sure someone can drive you home. Sedation is your friend!

Absolutely - loads of sedation. Mine didn't really hurt, it was more uncomfortable. The prep is the worst. Just close your eyes and gulp it down!

Anyone had polyps removed during the colonoscopy. As i understand that is what they are mostly looking for with us. I have been to the genetics unit and they have arranged these for us. They say they are looking to remove any polyps as these are the things that in our case (if we have this nasty gene) could turn really nasty.

Just wondered if you had any pain after.
