I've had one a few months ago due to crohns and a fistula. Prep was ok but the Picolax made me sick.
There was a student there who wanted to know my history, after I told her she said 'Don't worry we'll get to the bottom of it' I laughed and she went bright red when she realised what she just said.
They sedated me and gave me painkillers but I don't think the sedation worked as I was wide awake. It was fine going in I didn't even noticed it as the doc was so quick shoving it in. At first I didn't feel a thing but once they reached the sigmoid I nearly jumped of the table because of the pain. He had to go real slow and it was agony. They gave me another shot of painkillers and then it was better. The reason it was so painful was because I had an operation last yr and it left lots of adhesions.
Once they got to the fistula which is by my belly button he pumped in air. I was lying on my back and my belly grew and grew. The student looked worried until I told her this was my stoma bag over the fistula which was filling up with air, lol.
It was a painful experience for me but the staff were excellent and got me through it.:hello:0 -

I have had about 30 of these over the years and found them pretty uneventful, despite having a severe bowel disease (total colitis.) I didn't find the prep too bad either although I know others say that it makes them feel like they have a tummy bug. It will be fine-it's important to relax as much as you can. I found watching what was going on on the screen kept my thoughts off what they were doing too!Tomorrow is always fresh, with no mistakes in it!0

Hi Rikki
I had one....first ever....in January. I have a very low pain threshold, and after thoroughly researching it online...videos and all.....scared myself to death!!!!
The reality...it was a doddle, and I hardly felt a thing!!! Just some VERY slight discomfort when the probe was moved around bends!!!
So please, DO NOT WORRY...you'll be fine!!! (I'm not even going to wish you good luck!!!LOL)
See you on the other side!!

Hi Rikki.....have you had it yet? How did it go?

Gosh I'm glad of this thread
I have to have one in a few weeks and have been quite worried about the procedure.
Thinking about having a camera inserted - ouch!
But I guess they must be very small camera, and what do they do, do they change the camera every time and get them streilised?
Or do they have camera condoms:rotfl:
They've given me a preliminary diagnosis of diverticulitis but till they have a good rummage round it could be anything I suppose?I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Old style MoneySaving boards.

It should have been this week but it's had to be put back a few weeks. A part of me is relieved but the other part was looking forward to getting it over and done with. :j:(£2 Coins Savings Club 2012 is £4.............................NCFC member No: 00005.........

It's not the procedure that worries me it's the extra strong laxatives you have to take the day before.
I put a link in an earlier post about a gentleman's picolax experience, it's hilarious.£2 Coins Savings Club 2012 is £4.............................NCFC member No: 00005.........

Just seen this thread. My daughter has to have one soon and I'm relieved to note that hopefully it won't be too bad for her.0
