I have just applied to an EO role. Do you actually need previous managerial experience. I am sceptical about my application, as i am only 21 and i doubt that i would be given a role like that, even though i think i am mature enough!!!

Hi Matt, I am 22 and I am a Senior Executive Officer (2 grades above EO). As long as you are able to demonstrate how you fulfill the competencies required for the role then you will be eligible for appointment. Good Luck!

I am also a graduate and want to go further and feel my department is not giving me the support? :S please reply

I start in 2 weeks and am an Operations Manager for Jobcentre Plus. I am entering the department (and the civil service) at this level so cant really advise you on the best way to obtain promotion. Depending on how long you have worked in the department you could consider the fast stream? There is an annual internal intake in addition to the external competition so you effectively get 2 chances to apply! However, I would suggest the first step would be to raise the issue with your line manager - it is part of our job to develop our staff so he/she should be willing to offer you support and advice in addition to helping you construct an action plan which will assist you in acquiring the neccessary skills and experience. Good luck!
