Wow thanks for all of the ideas guys, some great ones so keep them coming. We are quite lucky in the fact we live down a cul-de-sac with no houses opposite us...just trees! We also have a very large tree in the middle of our front garden which my boyfriend wants to hang a noose from hehe

I was going to make a big bowl of chilli for 'real' food. Then I have seen some ideas for finger cookies and stuff. So I do have a few things up my sleeve.

What about ideas for songs? We could only think of 'monster mash', 'thriller', and the adams family tune!

I really have no idea for a costume for myself but it needs to be something quite practical as I will be running around doing the drinks and food etc.

Nah, sorry - I've just edited because several new posts arrived between Allexie's great site URL and my "quick" reply.

Was in good old Asda last week and they have a huge selection of Halloween goodies, a friend is being 'talked' in having a party and so we were having a ball trying all the scarey masks on etc. But obviously O/S would be cheaper but great starter ideas......stick on finger nails......spiders webs.....goooooy muck.

I did a big halloween party last year - scared the kids witless :D Asda do a c.d. of spooky music - doors squeaking, chains rattling, thunder etc....that's good as a back drop. They do loads of good bits and pieces too - we hung rubber bats and spiders from the ceiling in the dark hallway - got the kids to walk through it.

We did the traditional games, apple bobbing, trying to get a ring out of a mountain of flour with your teeth, apples on strings, etc.

My center piece was a disposable glove, filled with jelly and then frozen, take the glove off before you serve and cut a finger off....works best with red jelly, when it starts to melt it looks all bloody and gory....put loads of jelly worms around it - looked great (in a strange way!!!)

I got my dad to dress up, (decent mask and a white sheet), and stand in a corner - when all the kids came in he stood there for about 10 mins - when they ventured over to touch him (not realising he was real) he moved to grab them, they screamed until they cried with laughter......ohhhh don't you love doing that to your kids!

  • We made our own coffin a couple of years back from some 1/2" plywood. Hubby built it to my dimensions, which is a bit worrying !! Anyway we painted it gloss black, found some cheap gold coloured handles from the pound shop, put them on, and lined the inside with cheap red material.

It looked fab, we put it on the dining room table with the lights dimmed and the lid up, it looked like a wake !! Later we put the pans of hot pot and chilli inside it and people served themselves.
It was a talking point for weeks, and now the local school borrow it for their Halloween Disco. I might even use it one day when I shuffle off this mortal coil !!! - Now - that really would be Old Style !!
