Cheap Computer repair in Lonndon......

Making a loud noise and switching off is almost certainly a Fan failing (unless it is a high pitched screech and the screen locks up).
Internal fans cost less than a tenner to fix
PSU fan will mean a new PSU. £15-20 max but can be bought cheaper online.
Find some geeky kid to have a look or (as others have said) find a local PC shop.
Read this before taking it to PC World. Bunch of clowns!
I totaly agree i had a problem with my computer before and i went to pc world asked the salesman if he would help me as i was not sure what part to buy. His reply to me was "did you buy the computer off us" when i told him no he said "sorry i cant help you then" so i said to him "well i cant buy the part off you people then" and walked out. :mad:The solving of a problem lies in finding the solvers.0 -
Hi everyone, i need my computer repaired don't ask me what the problem is as i have no idea it keeps crashing and has a very loud noise coming from it.
Now i have called up a few place and they are all quoting me around £50 - £100 labour with call out fees etc. I just googled computer repair for these places. Is there any where i can get it repaired for cheaper as i do want to keep it and i do want to save money hence the money saving site
Any help or people that know a cheap place to go with.
Many regards and help Julie
Is there anyone at your workplace who might have a look at it for you?
Or an informed neighbour?
I know little about computers but as the old AA advert had it "I know a man who can".
A friendly person with decent internet access can help a lot of simple problems (only if they can be bothered it must be said)
I have "saved" numerous PCs and even a couple of MACs after a bit of searching on the internet.0 -
There should be no shortage of computer enthusiasts, I'm sure you'll know a friend or a friend or a friend to take a look. The physical workings of a computer require very little knowledge, it's what they do that needs a techie!
I'd suggest finding a friend who knows a little about it and see if they have any luck. It sounds very much like a dodgey fan in something, could be the PSU fan, the processor fan or the GFX card fan.0 -
You would have thought in this day and age there was some sort of computer company that did low cost or money saving costs to the public, everything is so expensive and all charge crazy prices. Martin should really have some sort of topic on the forum in trying to find a cheap good computer repair company.
Thank you all i will make a few more calls.......... Hope fully there is a company out there that is under £100 :mad:0 -

Do ask your friends/neighbours/colleagues first.
Some nice person may well do it for not a lot.

Why bother when you can make lots of money?0 -
pc components are pretty much like lego, if it doesn't fit, it doesn't go there, once you understand that, and have a reasonable understanding of search engines (narrow your searches to get better results) then diagnosing/fixing 99% of pc problems is a doddle, the skill, and what should be charged for, is what most of us posting here are capable of, making educated guess diagnoses based upon years of experience breaking things and having to get them fixed before anyone finds out.
As has been said. almost certainly a fan problem, take the left side off the case, turn on the computer and you should be able to work out which fan is failing, most likely the one over the CPU (the reboot will be due to overheating. if you feel very, very brave you could stop the fan for a second or less to see (hear) if the bad noise stops, if it does, the fan is held in place by 4 screws (usually, unlikely the OP has interesting cooling)and plugged into the motherboard, easy enough to remove, take to a pc shop and say 'can I have one of these, please' under a tenner! If that doesn't fix it, at least you've had a cheap play with the gubbins and gained a little confidence.
Plan B - you must know somebody with 1/2 an idea about computers? If I lived near I'd offer to have a look (£80/hour + vat

Hi, I can get around London. If you are near a tube station that won't be a problem for me during the day. Working for LU I get free travel carry some tools with me. Could help you fix the m/c for free + parts if req. from your preferrered pc supplier.0

What part of the country are you in Julie?
EDIT:
Sorry never seen London.
Please do not go to PCworld.
It most likely needs a clean, and from what you said maybe the Graphics card fan is stuck or slow.
Give all fans a clean.
Reseat the processor with heat transfer compound.
Look for anything else
And you will be up and running again for another 6 months.
I clean mine every 6 months, and I have filters fitted.
Find a local computer Geek, yes they can be handy at times and may even do it for free, I know I do.
I do get a bottle of wine handed to me on the way out sometimes.
Ask your friends if they have any sons who know about computers, not being sexist but normally geeks are male0 -

Had a quick look for you Julie:

Great site i used it before for a marketing company.
I suggest you look at a company called "Yan technology" they charge at fixed cost and they got some good reviews, another company is Carefree Computers they charge per hour but are very reasonable, give them both a call and let us know.
Good luck :P0
