Crazy prices? I'm not so sure about that. If it was me, I think I'd charge a similar fee...You want me to drive to your house, fiddle about with your PC, diagnose and fix the problem...you want me to have insurance in case anything goes wrong, you want me to be able to supply the parts there and then...and you want to pay me < £50 for doing it. Not sure I'd bother.

Anyway, to echo (again) the above, sounds like a fan problem from what you've said shouldn't take someone with an ounce of techie skill 5 mins to sort out with any luck...while you're working out what to do about it, priority 1 is to get yourself down to the shop and buy a memory key or removable hard disk to back your stuff up onto - will put your mind at risk in case the whole thing dies.

Problem is a little more serious guys, she mentioned the ble screen of death and also she is using the pc now so its not a over heating issue.

The data is not going to go either if its a blue screen of death so its not urgent to backup data but always nice too

Open the side of the PC, if its a dell unhook the side panel if its got screws (2 of them) unscrew it and it should pop out, it will be dusty and dirty so be warned! try and locate the area the noise is coming from.

Great site i used it before for a marketing company.

I suggest you look at a company called "Yan technology" they charge at fixed cost and they got some good reviews, another company is Carefree Computers they charge per hour but are very reasonable, give them both a call and let us know.

Defo give them a call i didnt have a look above but a fixed cost repair company sounds ideal! check them out 1st, if they have any hidden fees or anything.

Guys the best thing i have always find it get someone on recommendation from friends or family. If you don't then you may come across someone who, can't diagnose the problem and still charges or someone who will all of a sudden so there are lots of things wrong and cost you even more. I would stay away from PC World, i think the last time i looked most of there so called techies didn't have any real experience or qualifications.

Overheating can take time to overheat, though...I've had plenty of problems where a machine would work fine for the first hour, then get flustered and die. And I'm sure that overheating (especially on the GPU) could manifest itself through the BSOD. It still seems a good place to start.

how old is the computer? I ask because these days you can build a new computer for about £99. There's an article in one of the custom build PC magazines this month. Check it out.

Less than a year it is a HP cost me about £400. I have called the company above and they are sending out a person to fix it tomorrow at 9am i was quoted a fixed cost of £30 and i had a look at there company reviews seem like a deal as its fixed pricing. We shall see.

No it came from USA i already tried going through warranty its not covered

If it were an RTB warranty it would cost about that much to send it off anyway (and the hassle of being without a PC for a couple of weeks)

£30 to replace a £4 fan is a very fair price. You should be happy with that.

If it turns out to be the PSU you should expect an extra expense though (which would be fair).
