I have half a fairly large bag of B sprouts in the bottom of the fridge left from xmas. I am the only one who eats them and I don't like them that much.
Any ideas, can I blance them and freeze?

I'll add this to the existing thread to give you more ideas ;)

Sprouts are on offer in Lidl at the moment, was just wondering if anyone has made brussel sprout soup and what it tastes like. Is it nicer than it sounds? Looking for another way to use them rather than on their own with a roast dinner.

  • I had had enough of sprouts as a veg so put them through my (greenlife) juicer together with outer cabbage leaves and plenty of apple and carrot. Tasted good

    Hi tiff,

I've never used them in soup but there's a thread with lots of ideas that may help:

    spruce up your sprouts

I'll add your thread to that one later to keep the ideas together.

I often put sprouts in soup because my DH won't eat them only he doesn't know they're in there lol. I wouldn't put too many in, I just use them with leeks, onions , parsnips and potatoes.

I can just imagine the reaction of the Masterchef duo if they were presented with Brussel Sprout Soup as a starter!!
  • My dad makes a mean brussel sprout curry...just dont ask about the after effects!!! :rotfl:

Seriously, roast them with chestnuts, use them in a curry or in a stir fry...Stir fried they are really nice!! You can put them in soup...just look for a winter greens recipe and substitute some of the cabbage for sprouts....

    Sprouts are great!!!!

If you look on the thread about recipes never to be repeated, you'll see that I made this once! A kind Old styler posted a recipe just before Christmas 2007, and I thought that would be ideal for my left over sprouts. Now, I like sprouts a lot, but soup is not a good place for them. The only person who did like the soup was my OH who had two big bowls of it, and the rest of the family couldn't sit in the same room as him for several days :rotfl: :rotfl:

I'd go with roasting them with chestnuts and bacon myself as a hearty side dish for some cheaper meats, or use them in bubble and squeak.
