Moped Riding on Licence?

Remeber legally a moped is under 50cc and a design speed not over 31.5mph
With only a very small amount of work most mainstream models can go 45-55mph
oh and IMO don't touch a 4 stroke 50 with a barge pole0 -

with emissions laws and the move to four strokes - you may not have a choice. but two strokes is an easy way out - four strokes are still being developed and becoming faster. take the current breed of race rep 125 4 strokes which are nearly matching the performance of the 90's 125 RR's.
Twist and Go's arent any more dangerous than a geared bike, and seems to be more of a biased view of a type of bike rather than what is actually real.
Maybe you are confusing perhaps with the type of people who tear round housing estates and towns on little automatics.
Missing the original point of the post though. good luck with getting your CBT done.
You may be able to find a training school that has a geared moped. I used to have a 50cc motocrosser which I used to teach pupils and was very popular.
Don't forget the CBT is designed for new riders that have no or little experience in riding a motorbike/scooter. and if possible try to find a school which wont charge you if you take longer than a day. As other factors may stop you completing the training, (weather, breakdowns, fatigue, running out of time).Don't try to teach a pig to sing - it wastes your time and annoys the pig0 -
I'm thinking along the lines of the OP, but can anyone tell me whether you can take a passenger on a 50cc moped? (just on days I need to collect child from school)"Hope for the Best
Prepare for the worst"0 -
Yes if you have a full licence however their feet must reach the footpegs, I see one guy on my commute with a kid perched on the back with its feet high above the pegs.0

if you have a full car licence then you can carry a passenger on the back of a moped. without L plates - although if you have no experience then I would suggest a CBT anyway.
when the law changed in 2001 - a CBT which validated a car licence will last until the car licence expiry date - but only two years for a motorbike.
If you only have a provisional car / bike licence then a CBT wiill only last 2 years on moped or motorbike

hope the kid enjoys it - I just started taking my 6 yr old daughter on the back of my Daytona to and from school now and again as she is big enough to reach the footpegs.. she squeals her head off.. not risking any further than a few streets yet though .Don't try to teach a pig to sing - it wastes your time and annoys the pig0 -
I think you'll find it's the riders that are the danger and hazard, not the machines.vwcampervan72 wrote: »
And as for the twist n go's that you can buy, theyre a danger and hazard to other road/bike users.....
Their attitude that they can go anywhere/do anything, it's just a moped, can't do harm, rules are for other people.
If I were to go back and get another moped I'd be well aware of the Highway Code, the law and other road users and wouldn't have a cavalier attitude to my importance on the road, nor would I deem that I could "just go along here" or "just pop through those red lights".
I'd drive it like I drive a car. Many people get a "pushbike" mentality on them and are only aware of where they're headed.0 -
Also, I know this might sound obvious but if you are taking pillions on a moped please make sure the moped is actually made for 2 people, i.e not just room for 2 on the seat, pillions actually need their own seat and foot pegs.:heart2: Love isn't finding someone you can live with. It's finding someone you can't live without :heart2:0

As a biker who rode a twist n go for 20,000 miles over 18 months, would you care to explain that statement?
OP - You should take a CBT course as it will help you control the bike and make you a safer rider.
Sorry didnt mean to offend anyone, there seems to be quite a few of lads who have just left school round here been and got themselves twist n go's and two have already came off them.
THEYRE a hazard didnt refer to the bike "theyre" refered to the kids riding them0
