KwikFit got quite a roasting on Your Money, Their Tricks last night. 10 cars sent to 10 separate centres and 7 out of 10 recommended unnecessary work.
I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.

This site needs a banner to pop up up every time someone types "KwikFit"-screaming "Don't do it you idiot!" When will people learn?

I found every time I went to Kwik Fit they found something else wrong that I wasn't aware of.

I decided not to use them again after they noticed a chip in my windscreen and offered to mend it. I said not to worry I'd call Autoglass as its free. But the Kwik Fit man said he'll do it, I pay and I just send my bill to my insurer for refund.

As I was there and he was pushy I eventually agreed.

My insurer rejected my claim as in the small print I was only allowed to use Autoglass.

I know I should have gone with my initial thought. That often happens to me. I get persuaded by tradespeople against my better judgement. I must be stronger :-)

    Worse......

Now that you have informed your insurer, this loss/incident will have gone on your record and you need to disclose it to any new insurer you approach for a quote over the next 3/5 years depending on how long a history they ask for.

And it was only a chip not in the line of sight. They put that glue stuff on to fill it.

  • Left my car at 10am for a pre- booked and paid MOT at Kwik Fit Kingston Upon Thames and was asked out of the blue if I wanted to have my tyres alignment checked... and that it would cost £45 extra if re-alignment was needed. They called at 10.30am to let me know that yes, alignment was out and whether I wanted to proceed. I declined and went back to pick up my car at 12.30pm to found out that the MOT had still not been carried out, that I would have to wait an hour... (I was not impressed with the Kwik part of their name) and then was eventually told that the MOT had failed for the following reasons:
    1) 3 of my tyres had cuts and needed changing and that the cost would be £468 but thanks to a generous discount (most certainly due to the fact that it was me and they liked me so much) it would only be £384 for the same Dunlop tyres.
    2) A side mirror indicator light didn't work but because this was not the sort of work they could undertake I would have to go to another garage (?) and have my car back in for a re-test the next working day latest or they would charge me about £20. As it was now 1pm on a Saturday afternoon it meant that I had to either find an open garage able to fix this light without appointment and have my car back in before they closed at 4pm, take a day off work or pay.
Although I thought they surely would have the best prices/deals on tyres as they have such volume, I went to the Sheen Tyre Centre on the other side of Richmond Park to double check. I was quoted a total of £280 for the same 3 Dunlop tyres. I was also told that the alignment of my wheels was absolutely fine and nothing to worry about...
So, not quick (except to let you know that your tyres need to be re-aligned), not changing side mirror lights, not competitive and not reliable.
  • I have used kwik fit once and that was once too many. One experience with them was enough to put me off for life. Same with halfords auto centre too.
An opinion is just that..... An opinion

When will people learn about kwik fit? Even if you know absolutely nothing about cars, 30 seconds on google will tell you all you need to know.

    Find a good independant!

    Hi
Could you look into my bad experience with Kwikfit?

In August 1992 I was on holiday and went into the Bridgewater Branch needing new brake pads on my Rover 213.

When I came back, my brake shoes had been removed and smashed up and I was mis-sold some overpriced disks, pads, shoes. To be honest I could probably get the same work done today for less than I was held randsom too back then as a niave 22 year old with his first car.

I've not been back since and it would appear over 20 years on your company hasn't changed one single bit in it's policy of ripping people off!!!
