From this board I now use the basic Tesco value bio washing powder - it was only about £1 something for 3kg and I dont seem to have used much in the last 3 - 4 weeks and use washing soda with it to make it last longer. - Seems fine too and vinegar in the rinse dispenser.Saving in my terramundi pot £2, £1 and 50p just for me! :j0

Susank, do you find it more expensive to use vinegar in place of fabric conditioner or did you not use it anyway? I just think that the vinegar is more expensive than FC. I am not able to buy white vinegar in large quantities only the 500ml bottles.
I do the one box economy, one box more expensive, and one bag washing soda mix. Works very well. However, I have some borax I bought mail order, so I may make some of my own for a few months to use that up.Grocery Challenge £139/240 until 31/01

I've started using value malt (brown) vinegar in my wash as I can't easily get hold of large quantities of white - I find it makes no difference
It IS more expensive than FC for me- as I never used it before anyway0 -

Check the link on soapnuts (in the thread on this forum), I shall have a look and post it again here when I find it.
I had a sample and used it already 3 times with great results. I have now ordered 250g and hope to make that last for a very long time!

ok, I have to ask this as i've seen it mentioned so many times on OS. Does anybody else find the idea of using vinegar instead of fabric conditioner a bit bizarre?
i imagine that the clothes do not come out smelling of vinegar... otherwise surely nobody would use it?
what benefit does it have apart from it being cheaper? and no, i haven't done a search for the answer, i started on my reply before i thought about that, my confusion got there first. i'm sure someone will link me up before i manage to find it!*goes searching*

What puzzles (and annoys) me is why none of the supermarkets seem to do a Value powder in non-bio, for those of us with sensitive skin.

Yes its ore expensive for me anyway as I did not like fabric conditioner - I buy small bottles too as not seen any big ones yet but will once I find any. I think the vinegar cleans out the machine too and makes the clothes softer. I dont like conditioner as it makes the towels non absorbent!.
I also would like value non bio. I had a trial of soap nuts and although good did not remove stains from t shirt and a friend tried them and still had stains on her jeans - light coloured ones. So back to the drawing board I think with the value powder and washing soda.Saving in my terramundi pot £2, £1 and 50p just for me! :j0 -

I got my 250g bag at the end of last week after using the sample - should do me for approx 150 washes! I think the website says it works out at approx 3p a wash and you don't any conditioner etc . They are absolutely brilliant."Stay Wonky":D
