a washing machine engineer told my mum recently that using liquid is bad for your machine - something to do with it coating everything up i think.

:rotfl:Do you think the WM engineers are touting for business? the last one that came out to fix our 10 yo machine said all the inside and pipes were lovely and clear and it was probably because I only use liquid! :rotfl:

I used to use liquid, but went back to powder & washing crystals as it worked out cheaper. Only disadvantage is remembering to degunk the powder drawer!

i have a bottle of liquid that i bought in the great glos severn trent disaster. i got it as we had no water for 2 weeks and had to keep work uniform clean, it was good as it didnt have to disolve and therefore was easier and took less water when hand washing ( especially when rain was forcast and i used it to rince 15 items of clothing washed in one litre of water) i have tried using it in my machine but am not converted and will keep the remains for emergency hand washing only.

:D Glad to know I wasnt imagining a difference, I only use the one type for everything never even considered having different types for all the different wash loads I do:o

I'm sure the washing machine engineers will tell you what ever you use the other version is better:rotfl:

  • :hello: Powder definatly makes my washing smell fresher than liquid. The new comfort conditioner is wonderful I recommend it. I used to get white marks on dark items only when using the economy brands of powder or if I overfilled the machine with clothes so it couldnt rinse properly. Since switching back to powder I no longer have to run my machine on empty at a high temp to clean it. Shame that powder is so messy and I spill it all over the floor every time without fail..."deep breath" :exclamati

i have used liquid for years and am quite sensitive to the brands. I use tescos own non-bio. However after reading this thread I may give a box of powder a go and see if i can tell a difference. My machine very much suffers from a fousty smell and you have to empty the machine immediately otherwise the clothes start to smell - which isn't good.

I use a combination of soda crystals and liquid at the minute and it seems to get my clothes far cleaner & fresh smelling than using just liquid.

I'm not a devotee of one or the other though, I'll get whatever's on special/cheaper which is usually liquid.
  • I was using Ecover liquid as ds2 is sensitive to most - but have changed to Sainsburys Basics Bio powder- he hasn't had a reaction, I'm saving tons, the clothes are cleaner and the machine does smell better.

I use a colour liquid for blacks & very darks, but I use powder tablets for everything else. I think powder cleans better too.
