Mine has a free paper round. It gets him out of the house and gives him money to buy new games. At least it is exercise of sorts.

Have you tried the Chill Factor indoor snow place in Manchester. There are others around as well.

I forgot to mention camping in the garden as a summer pursuit that my teens still enjoy (or as they get older camping elsewhere). Everyone brings a sleeping bag and they eat, drink and chat (or whatever) until they crash. Great for a summer's evening and safe with the house very close.

well my son was a hermit as well until he joined the Sea Cadets 18 months ago and to be honest I will now be glad when he's 17 next year so he can drive himself to all the events he attends!

He's a changed person and my only regret is that he didn't join earlier.

  • Are your boys into live music.
If you live in the Manchester area The Academy 1 & 2 and Club Academy on Oxford Road have up and coming bands from as little as £5.00 a ticket. Also more well known bands at varying prices.
There is also Sonic Boom under 18s Rock Night, usually held once a month.
The next one is on Saturday 14th June at Manchester Aqua Bar with 2 rooms of live music and DJ's. Tickets £5.00 each
My 16 year old daughter has been going to these places since she was 13.
She always has a great time and there has never been any trouble when she has gone.
I went to one event with my daughter and her friend at Manchester Academy 2 when Elliot Minor were playing there. There were 2 other bands on before them as well. I stayed near the back so they could enjoy it without me hovering over them. There were many other parents there and couples in there 20's and 30's. It was a great night and not too expensive. I don't think you can beat live music.

Can anyone help? Our 2 boys, aged 12 and 15, NEVER want to do anything...the only things that interest them are computer games and their XBox 360!! We are forever trying to get them interested in other things but to no avail.

Not really, my daughter is quite shy and has a small amount of friends. She will go out with them if they call, which is about once a week, sometimes less often, but she doesn't go out to call for them. Her best friend moved to Lancashire 2 & 1/2 years ago. She sees her about once every 6 weeks. And her other friend who she's known since age 3 has recently moved house. She spends a lot of her time on My Space, Facebook, Msn and her mobile phone, which is why I try and find things for her to do. Her favourite things are Theme Parks, Live Music and Cinema. Unfortunately these can be quite expensive so we don't do them very often and I'm always on the lookout for something cheap. Quite recently we went to watch ice hockey matches with free tickets through the Channel M website, but the season is over until September.
We are going to the World Series By Renault event at Silverstone in June.
I'm the car racing fan and my daughter is coming because she said she'd rather do that than stay at home.
harryharp If you think your sons might like the car racing event and you are able to go, there are still tickets available on the website so they should arrive in time. I have also seen on the Geochacing site where they have talked about camping nearby and watching it from outside the fence. If you managed to get the tickets, you could camp nearby and use the free entrance tickets
  • I have four tickets for this if you want them
