Many thanks for all the ideas.

Going cold turkey with the consoles would probably be a good idea, but not sure I'm brave enough to cope with the utter hatred that would ensue...! But I will think seriously about it.

Might think about a holiday park...they've both done karting before, a few years ago and I think they quite enjoyed it. Neither of them like skating, the older one LOVES skiing (the only active thing he's ever done and enjoyed), but the younger one HATED it when we had a skiing holiday recently. I've looked at the Pontins website and we have one quite near us in Southport- will enquire about day passes.

Centreparcs might be good when we've got a bit more time. At the moment we can only go away Tue and Wed of half term.

Thank you for the link to the other similar thread, Emma. There are some other ideas on there I will think about.

By the way, we've just had a family conversation over tea about different things we could do. When I suggested going to a football/rugby/ice hockey game, my oldest said he would rather jump off a cliff...this is what I'm dealing with I'm afraid.

Make sure they go to uni, and they will be out a lot more.

A lot of my hall mates are geeks (as I am) but we all go and play football, some had never played before, and its enjoyable and stuff. We all go into town, go cinema, go swimming.

I guess its just over time. But if they don't go out often enough they will never pick up a gf/bf..... (tell them this!!!!!!!)

So they love Karting and one of them loves skiing.. that good :) why not encourage their interest in that then?

What about seeing if the younger one would try snowboarding? I'm a snowboarder and it's great fun :)

Ah now, I wish they did have girlfriends (the 15-yr old anyway)- I think girls would be a good influence. Unfortunately neither of them seems to have much interest (at least they NEVER talk to us about anything like that!!!)

I'm hoping things will improve when they go to uni...they both hate football though I'm afraid, both watching and playing it!

I'm 15 myself so I kinda know what they mean ^__^

Who do they hang round with at school? Don't they like go out and do things? Our lot go bowling now and then, up the hill for a good old 15 mile walk, or just to the park and like play rounders/cricket. We go cinema often, have you tried that?

Yes, I will explore the karting avenue (damned expensive though!!)

As for the younger one, he's not interested in snowboarding I'm afraid. We've already been down that route...

He used to have a skateboard, which he asked for for his birthday, then would never play with it. About a year ago I succeeded in getting him to go outside and have little play on the pavement, just up and down. But then, would you believe, he fell at a funny angle and broke his knee! So since then he's been turned off skateboarding (not surprisingly), and snowboarding which he sees as a similar sort of thing except on snow!

Thank you Mike. They're not sporty at all I'm afraid...Their school mates tend to like computer stuff too, and when they come here that's what they do!

They do quite like bowling though, come to think of it. We haven't been for a while so will think about doing that soon.

Mike, do you tend to just go out with your mates, or do you do stuff with you family too?

Do you really go for 15 mile walks????!!! That's amazing.

get them out doing things at the weekend, try getting them into martial arts - possibly similar to the type of games they play? - take them paintballing, like mentioned before theme park trips, try and find things that link to the kind of games they play.

source: looking after 13 yr old boy obsessed with shootout and football games, paintballing and football trips are the only things that get him to leave the house

Not a problem! My friends arn't like proper sporty people either (like in the school teams and that), we just do it for a laugh; like when people fall over and that. What kinda computer stuff is it, is it stuff like Runescape and World of Warcraft (WoW) and that?

Yeah bowling's always a good laugh! Yeah its always with my mates, the only time I'll be out with my mum is on some Saturdays when we'd go to town in the morning to see my Nan and go to Burger King and that (embarrassing I know :p)

Yeah up and around the Cotswold Hills, we usually take the cricket/rounders set up there or a ball, and it is quite cool exploring and finding really strange things/sites! We only see a few people up there, and thats old dog walkers. You said they're not so keen on going out because of crowds/gangs, so it would be allright. If theres some hills near you you could go for a good days walk up there, and bring the dog if you have one! I'll try and help as much as I can, because I was like that to.
