Yeah, got to say I find that one a scary thought too. We pay a set amount a month but I am sure the suppliers will be in touch soon asking us to make increased payments!! Still with the better weather we have had the heaters on less, which is something! We have storage heaters here and I hate them with a passion, so much more used to gas. There is no mains gas here, only oil or coal or electric heaters really. Would love to save up and get oil central heating for the ease of it, although oil is not exactly cheap either these days! Overbudget if not sure, then if its less you have some spare to treat yourself with or carry forward to next month.

I'm not entirely sure where his money goes, the only one I know for certain is
£39 on his laser eye surgery (which will end soon).
So that leaves £261 which I think he spends on:-
Going to the pub
Takeaways (I know this one can be cut down when the lodgers go)
Clothes (Tesco and Sports World - so I know he's not going mad).
General spending during the day (he drives a van, so I know he pops into petrol stations).
CD or a game for his puta.
I know they all sound like luxuries, but I do think we need a bit of a life. I'm naturally a saver (I still have £140 of my £200 for May) and he is a spender, but he is gradually getting better. We have no debt besides the mortgage and I know he thinks I'm stingy and tight (I control all the joint money). I can't possibly ask him to get an evening job after coming home from work when we could just save a little less each month. If anything, after the baby comes, I will be expected to go out to work in the evenings (partly for my sanity, partly to get some extra money in).
I just panic and know that it's going to be hard when the kid comes. At the moment, we have spare money which we save, but this will change once the lodgers go and my wages go. He is trying to see things from my point of view, but he is one of those people that see things like "If you have money, spend it." I am the complete opposite and you have to prise a penny out of my hand!
I just think maybe we have more personal spending money because some people might see takeaways, or CDs, or clothes as something that comes out of joint money.
I don't know, maybe things will change when the baby comes.
Things will change. I'm a full-time mum and I don't have me money as such. We have us money and baby money (which is child benefit). Generally my social life is free, friends over for coffee (ok a bit spent on coffee and biccies), walks in the park etc. We went to the pub as a couple for the first time since getting pg (a year ago) last week and I drove so didn't drink. Takeaways have also become a thing of the past too, we try to eat better as the lack of sleep requires energy replenishment.Taking baby-steps :beer:0 -
We are similar to shellsuit, works out just fine!! We have seperate and joint accounts, but apart from my wages which pay the dd's, mortgage, hols etc, it's a case of "whoevers got the money at the time coughs up!!".
It's not a case of "my" money and "his " money, I know couples who lend each other money, or wouldn't dream of putting filling up their husbands / wifes car up with petrol
How bizarre is that????????????

Some of you will undoubtedly disagree with our informal arrangements, but we've been happily married for 17 years and never argued over money:j :j
