£300 pcm is loads! And he only puts 87% of his money in the joint acount??? Doesn't that mean he actualy spends more than £300?
Blimey! We don't have spends as such as we are paying down debt but when we do I was thinking in the region of £40 each a month. We need savings and our family MUST come first.
Good luck. It might be time to try and re-educate him. Try a spending diary and do a budget together.

His wages is £1,673 ish. Out of this he takes £300, so I suppose he only gives the joint account 82%.
However, my wages are £1,922 ish, and I take £300, so I give the joint account 84%, so unfair!

Personal spending money ~ what's that?

I have my money, he has his. I pay what I pay, he pays what he pays.
Whatever is left is our money, but he has much more money that me.
If I want new shoes (for example), we'll get them. If he wants something for the car, we'll get it. Of course the kids come first, but anything we want or need comes out of our money.
I'm out on Friday and also need to put some money in a card (wedding of a friend of a friend). OH hasn't been out in ages, but he won't moan when I need cash for that this weekend.
The last time I had personal spending money was before I had the kids! :rotfl:Tank fly boss walk jam nitty gritty...0 -

hear hear.......... 40K and he pays £100 per month........ he sounds like such a tightwad  ......... £10 per week....... minimumsmile --- it makes people wonder what you are up to....

we keep it all separate. My OH earns 5 times as much as me, but has to stop in a hotel for the 4 days out of 8 that he works, so it does get eaten up, but he still have tons more than me obviously.
He does like to spend though, especially on guitars and anything to do with them. He also travels 100 miles or so every 10 days approx to spend the day with his kids.
Been together 3 and a half years, but I still feel more comfortable having separate finances.0 -

Eh? He still lives with her and she does all his washing and ironing. Think I should have stayed at home.Pink Sproglettes born 2008 and 2010

You don't pay anything "because you're a student" but you have that much money to spend on yourself! Don't you think you are ripping off your parents?
No - beacuse my wages arent enough on its own. I only work saturdays and a day in the week sometimes, if i were to pay £300 a month rent i think my wages would be gone rather.
So in that respect im not, and my mum has said she wants rent when i earn enough to pay it which i think is quite fair. Its just that combining what i earn with my boyfriends earnings is what we spend a month.
But thanks your concern

when I was on YTS age 16, I earned £27.30 a week, out of that I had to give my mother £10. She taught me to pay my way. It did work, as I don't owe anyone a penny!
I will try and instill the same discipline in my 2 daughters, but I still thought my mother taking £10 off me was a bit tight, haha!0 -
When my Mrs Chorlton was off work after the kids were born - 12 months each time - we pooled all our incomes, my wages, tax credits, child benefit etc to cover cost of living and split the remainder 50/50 - was about £35 a week each during unpaid leave - bit more when the maternity pay was still coming in.
Now we each pay a set monthly amount into a joint account that covers all the joint bills, food, kids clothes, childminder, car etc.
I take home £200/month more than she does, so I pay £900pm and she pays £700 into the joint account and we have equal personal spends each left over.
Basic philosophy is that we're a team. We work equally hard - regardless of earnings - so we should have equal spends each month.0 -
and you sound like a dream oh!0
