  • thought I'd come over here for some advice, made a few late payments last year on CC's an also had a high level of CC debt so my credit rating took a bashing, never had any defaults/ccj's though or missed payments. Anyway have spent the last 6 months hammering away to try to make inroads into our debts and I think we are now getting somewhere, have had no late payments this year on anything, although gone over the od limit a couple of times (does that count?)

In October I tried to get a 0% deal but was refused, hubby managed to get an Egg card on 0% for 15 months so we transferred some of the debt to that, great!

I got a copy of my credit report from experian and notcied we weren't on the electoral roll, we moved to this house in March and informed the council straight away but it seems they don't update until 1st December.

Anyway, I am now presuming things are on the up, about this time last yr all our cc's were reducing our limits etc but last week Barclaycard wrote to me to tell me they have increased mine by £1500, so I have applied for an Abbey card 0% to see if that is successful, hoping we are now appearing on the electoral roll. We each owe about £15,000 on credit cards currently though although not using all available credit, I paid off my alliance and leicester card a few months ago (£1100 limit) but it is just dormant, not sure whether to close it, ask for a deal, or leave it open in case it makes me look more favourable to lenders as I'm not using all my credit, does that make sense?

what advice does anyone have for me? do you think Abbey will decline me?, (HSBC, my bank and Cap One did in October, although Cap one offered me one at 28% interest, no thanks)

what else can I do to improve my rating?, I am paying things off as fast as I can and overpaying the most expensive APR card each month by a few hundred. How long do you think it will be before I can get a 0% deal again? I am getting sick of paying high interest rates now (nothing above 26% though) but don't want to keep applying for cards and that affecting me aswell, after all household bills and min payments on everything are paid we have a disposable income of around £1200 left for luxuries and overpayments to really help with overpaying, do we need to get our levels down a bit more before looking more favourable? there is nothing else adverse on my report

    Is that right about Vanquis...
I was earwigging to a conversation in the tesco queue and a woman was saying to another woman that vanquis charge £25 a year for having their card??
