Back in 2001 I was disowned by my family because I am gay. To this day I haven't seen any of them. However, 3 years ago I got a phone call from my mother (God knows how she got my number) and was told my father had died of a heart attack. I was shell shocked. He was 51 I think. Even now I look back and wonder if I had helped cause that or if I wasn't gay would he still be alive. Stupid I know but I can't help thinking like that.

Thank you all, the hardest thing was he was only diagnosed in the June and he died in the August.

That is such a short period of time to come to terms with something as serious as a brain tumour. It must have happened so quickly!

You are who you are, some families are old fashioned to a certain degree and it maybe hard for them to accept the fact your sexuality is different from theirs Cif.
People are people at the end of the day, Homosexual, Black, Asian, Heterosexual, bi-sexual whatever, it would be a dull world if were all the same wouldn't it?
It is not your fault that your dad had a heart attack, so don't even blame yourself for that, it is not right!

I know that logically you are right Mr P but when I heard the news and to this day I couldn't help label myself a disappointment which somehow contrubuted to what happened.

It was quite hard, he had no symtoms other than a small seizure in April and after that they sent him to a neurologist who diagnosed epilepsy and it was only after a mri scan they found the tumour, I know this will sound strange but what helped me cope was the fact that it was all so sudden that there was no time to prepare for it.

Its odd how we react to different pressures like this. Some people say after the fact that they wish they had more time to prepare but others are thankful for the speed.
