I agree zarjaz. I am always amused by "we are doing them a favour." A favour would be pointing it out and taking the r&r and letting it be done with. Going to store after store to pick up the same item again and again is doing no favour. How many phones, computers, and fairy books does one person need? Some people get so many because they are selling them on...that is not a favour to tesco or the ordinary people who shop there. I am also amused by the people who insert :( after they state the sel was changed...isnt that the point of tesco's policy?

BTW, I am not against people r&r, though I do think people take advantage of the system. The greed of some people is no different than the greed of tescos. If people would just use a little restraint I think it would all sit better with me.

    Just my opinion...

It looks as though the books were priced at £9.95 and that you were charged £9.95 for them. No contract was made at the 1p price. I can't understand why you're not happy.

So when she scanned the barcode and it came up as 1p, Is that okay?

    ANOTHER MANAGER!!!!!!!!!

Sorry, no manager...just a poor phd student who is a little uncomfortable with some of the greed on BOTH sides. I dont work at tescos, I am not a voice for tescos. I am just voicing MY opinion which is moderation in r&r and stopping the pretense that it is a favour. ;)

Ok sorry, just had a bad experience on Tuesday with Mr T.

However, I don't think there is anything wrong in getting refund and keep if Mr T get prices wrong, they rip us off enough as it !!!!!
  • Ok folks I need help please...

I have been Verbally BANNED by the store manager from Tescos in Brandon, Suffolk due to the R & R policy. Before I explain what happened I wish to thank everyone who has helped contribute to these forums for some great knowledge and highlighting the amount of over charged items made by Mr. T!

I noticed that the price of Tesco's Finest Parmesan had a SEL £13.06 or £13.08 price per Kilo. The product displayed a kilo price of £17.08. I purchased two of these with the rest of my shopping. I went to Customer Services and told them the pricing error and overcharge. The Store Manager was called to serve me (Eric). I showed him the SEL and product on display and his reply was that I was not overcharged (He removed the SEL), as the price on the product is what I got charged and that was the contract, which I entered into. He would only offer to refund me for the cheese but not to honour the R&R policy! At this time a security guard asked to speak with him (on the side) and I know she has been watching me of late due to the amount of times I have found over-charged goods. I made a call to HQ and they told me he had to honour the R&R (I was using public phone in lobby area) I asked HQ if they would tell the S.Manager but HQ chap was about to finish shift. The S.Manager would not accept what they said and replied: "no-one over-rides my decision".

We are now 20 minutes down the road with this… I mentioned to the S.Manager that I would expect my frozen goods to be replaced due to the situation. He told me that this was not an option!

I made a further call to HQ and spoke with a lady by the name of Lorraine on ext. 56930. Lorraine listened to my report so far and asked me to wait at CS while she called to speak with CS directly. CS would not get involved and put her straight thru to the S.Manager. Then a lady by the name of "Faye" appeared. Faye told me that the S.Manager insists there is no-overcharge, that he would be replacing the SEL back tomorrow however he would be happy to exchange my frozen items.

Lorraine at HQ told me to call her back if I had any more problems. I phoned her back to find out the situation. The S.Manager told Lorraine that there was no overcharge (I believe he didn’t even know what he was talking about!). Lorraine was unable to help, (at the end of the day) he is the 'store manager'. She also mentioned that the S.Manager told her some "other things". <I assume he told her that I am known to his store for finding over-charged items i.e. R&R> At this point I spoke about Trading Standards. Lorraine put it to me that if I were going to mention Trading Standards she would end the call and put the phone down.

I felt awful at this time knowing I could do no more. After a few ‘dirty’ looks from senior staff members I decided that I didn’t want the cheese or the frozen goods infact, I was so unhappy I didn’t want any of my shopping.

Back to CS for a full refund of my entire shop (£19). A team leader was called over to start the process. Eric the S.Manager then appeared. He asked me as to why I requested a refund on my shopping. I said that I had 'changed my mind' (as the policy allows!). CS continued to add up the refund.

At this point the S.Manager told me that I was no longer welcome in his store and with that he provided me with a Verbal notice that I am BANNED from entering his store. I asked for this in writing. He declined and told me this was a verbal notice and if I were to enter into his store he would ask security to remove me! He then told Faye at CS to witness this and the Team Leader to which they both acknowledged. Once again I asked for this in writing. I then asked for what reason I was banned to which he replied "I do not have to give you a reason you are not welcome in my store!”

What are my options, if any? If anyone can give me some advice or help I would really appreciate it!!

Thank you so much for taking the time to read this.....!!

    Warmest Regards to all,

I am disgusted with what you experienced. The store manager will regret this I'm sure, please keep us all informed with any further news, and I'm sure someone will be able to give you more legal advice on what to do

  • I'm thinking of buying one single share in Tescos so when I get banned I can claim I'm a shareholder and they are banning me from my asset. Can they enforce squatters rites on me I wonder???

Also for my nominal investment I would insist on all their publications for shareholders which must cost a fair wack to post out!!

Been following this thread for a while now, and watching how so many people get irate at the treatment they receive from Tesco customer services.

Does anyone, beyond me, actually feel that there is something rather indecent about consistently setting out to get something for nothing? Could it even be described as fraudulent? Mistakes are made, which is doubtless why Tesco have this refund policy. But was it really designed to allow what can only be described as systematic abuse - with people competing to see who can get the biggest refund!

Of course, what will happen is that Tesco will eventually withdraw the policy. Only a matter of time. Or do people believe that this is a victimless "crime"? It's not - when goods are given away for nothing, profits go down, and therefore prices go up to compensate. So those of us who don't go shopping in Tesco to hunt for misprices end up subsidising those who do!

    Just IMHO, of course! ;)

I would like to politely suggest you buy a copy of "Shopped" to discover how Tesco are systematically squeezing every small business, supplier and farm out of business so that only the power of the big conglomerates remain. I used to feel slightly guilty about every penny I squeezed out of coupons etc.

Now I make it a mission to decrease their profits from me as much as possible :D

  • In my paper Monday it said, Tesco has recorded half-year profits of £908 million. I don't have any time for Tesco ripping people off all the time it make me mad. All my family spend alot of money every week and don't use coupons or cheek there receipt. I now use lots of coupons and good on the people who get things for nothing.

!!!!!!, you shouldn't have let them see you in your dare-plus-flair car - more than ever the marked man now.

Yes it was nice to gain such a prestigious award, read the article myself and was pleased to beat Homer Simpson and especially that no-good Noddy, betting the competition easily with my Dastardly driving skills, and cunning traps. The only problem is now that they know what my vehicle looks like and they have a good description of me, moustache looked particularly good, those at Tesco's they are likely to overcharge me on my CAR INSURANCE, aswell !! :rotfl: Escpecially when they figure out that the route of my next WACKY RACE will take me past several of their EXTRA stores, I can't help that though Mutley is the navigator.

Just to say that these store managers are an absolute total disgrace, been reading back on some recent experiences, and a large percentage are at best lying, arrogant, illegal, and from my experience DASTARDLY people. The law is on the side of the consumer although from my experience these liars will try anything to get out of R&R, and to make it look like you are the person in the wrong.
Drat and Double Drat, curse that Mr T excuse for not giving me a refund.

EVERY LITTLE EXCUSE HELPS in trying to get out of the R&R policy when the law has been broken, especially on high value items. :D
