doesn't appear 2 be a few people taking advantage to me - more like bounty hunting and yes whilst they don't pull some errors as quickly as they should in some stores who do you think carries the can for these "human errors" usually the poor sod who missed something on the system which churns out 100s of price changes daily - and that poor sod is usually someone just like you or me working hard for not enough money making ends meet, but hey no matter where the buck stops enjoy your bargainsi'm living in a parallel universe0

I regularly scan items especially expensive ones, as when I want to use coupons I really try not to be overcharged, given their pricing errors not always possible. Just for devilment may scan a PC next time I'm in a store but will have to get help to lift up the box to scanner from a member of staff, will say just making sure as I believe you had a problem with these a few weeks ago :A
Thanks I have sent an email for now asking exactly what I did wrong..0 -

Tesco should have decent procedures in place to ensure that EVERY misprice once alerted to by r&r is corrected Nationwide asap. They simply do not have a procedure to ensure this as it is obviously not THAT important for them to implement as the number of people not noticing the overcharges FAR out weighs the number of people who do notice.
The maths is simple.
I have no sympathy for Tesco employees if they have to carry the can for a pricing mistake. They perhaps should suggest that their employer should have a decent system in place in the first instance.0 -

Just come back from my local Tesco's.
They have a offer on of £20 off a tesco mobile network phone as long as your shopping comes to more than £40. Phones must be purchased at the same time.
Went to Tesco with the intention of spending approx £300 major booze and food shop. I had kids with me who were pestering for new mobiles for christmas. I split my shopping into 6 lots of approx £50, paid seperatley and included 6 mobiles. 4 were the sony erricsons at £69.99 and 2 were top of the range at £169.99. The girl on the checkout got a bit stressed but she understood were I was comming from.
On the way back to the car my 12 year old who has desires to be an accountant informed me that i had been charged full price for the mobiles.
Needless to say off I trots to C/s who tried to offer me £120, i stood my ground, along came the manager who after the initial shock authorised my refund of nearly £600. As a gesture of good will I offered my clubcard for the deduction of the points and Was told that they did not deducted them. I also got 6 peterol vouchers for 5p off. Mr t was a good egg tonight.
BY the way there seemed to be a lot of confussion as to how the £20 discount should be applied.
regards to all
Elaine
i got the little pink round phone from them today, they didnt knock off the £20, so i went to cs and got mine for free too, had to stand my ground too as they only wanted to refund the £200 -
I wonder if this mobile over-pricing is nationwide and will last as my other half wants the Samsung E530 but i didn't want to get it from Tesoc as it is locked with them but if i could get it free, well that's another matter;)Darren0

No sympathy at all .... in my store the person concerned just spent 9 months nursing their dad holding down a full time job, 2 kids, but the pressures off a bit now their Dad died.
As for the employees telling Tesco to get a better system what planet you from - do you not work for someone else - have you any idea at all? m

i think the problem is happening at the tills, it is not knocking the £20 off, if this is so, then it is worth buying the tesco network phone and then getting it unlocked, after all if you stand your ground you will get the phone in the end for free!!!0 -

You did well to get the phone (full refund) - I'm sure they'd go for £20 only.0 -
To answer a query from about 10 pages back (which I can't be arsed to look up): the refund policy exists for two reasons. Firstly, in order to offer some recompense for the inconvenience of being wrongly charged and having to spend time hanging around at the Customer Service Desk (CSD), which works by encouraging the customer to come back (by not leaving a bad taste in the customer's mouth) and by making them feel that the shop is genuinely sorry for the error. Secondly, it works by making the right people (Price Integrity dept) accountable for having the right labels on the shelves. By making the Systems department responsible for the money that gets handed out by this policy, standards can (in theory, at least) be monitored and tightened.
Personally, I have no problem with issuing refunds as per the policy, as I understand and appreciate the above two motives, and also because I know that I am following policy, so it can't come back on me. There is also the 'it's not my momey' argument. As far as I'm concerned, the company has told me what to do in the case of an overcharge, and I am just implementing its policy. If I choose not to go by policy, and offer only the difference, and the customer then goes to challenge that, it makes me look stupid and it makes me look dishonest. If they don't want me to be giving out their money, they either shouldn't have the policy, or they should ensure that price integrity is run better!
As for the mispriced computers mentioned here, as far as I'm comcerned, the people putting them on the shelves should be checking, and double-checking that they are displaying the right price. I know that if I ever had to stock shelves of high-value items, I would be overly cautious with checking the labels, simply because I know that an overcharge on a TV will cost the company a lot of money, whereas an overcharge on a pack of vegetables will cost comparatively very little. In fact, there are procedures in place to ensure that these checks happens with *every* product, but it is doubly important with high value items.
I do also feel that the employee dismissed for claiming a refund should not have been disciplined unless there was firm evidence that he was aware of the misprice before purchasing the item. As far as I'm concerned, when I'm not working, I'm a customer, and expect to receive the same standards of service that anyone else is entitled to. But clearly, I don't know all the details of this particular situation so it's not possible to speculate.0 -

I agree, all they have to do is give you the £20 off. Technically this is not an overcharge because you are paying the correct price for the phone as noted on the SEL. The £20 discount is an additional incentive and all they have to refund you is the £20 discount that they omitted to give. IMO anyway0
