Pipeline Card - I Got Spammed

Worse news. It turns out the company they are passing on details to for cheaper gas and electricity is the utility warehouse discount club.
Well known to us for spamming/misleading claims/downright lies.
Clearly a marriage made in heaven.

Quentin , I am curious to learn where its Uwdc that is involved with this pipeline card , It comes as a surprise to me as Uwdc has no reason to spam or use anyones e-mail address as its their Distributors that brings in customers
If it not them , the Company ? your quote - Well known to us for spamming/misleading claims/downright lies - Is rather strong or are you are referring to individual Distributors ?
Could you please let me know as I would be interested to know

Quentin , I am curious to learn where its Uwdc that is involved with this pipeline card
Or what about this article on Motley Fool where a response to a post says to call UWDC and quote "Pipeline card". Looks like conclusive evidence to me.
You can ring Utility Warehouse directly on 0800 131 3000 (remember to quote 'Pipeline Card') between 9am and 5:30pm Monday to Friday and between 9am and 4:30pm on Saturday. To get the ball rolling all you need is your name and address, then they'll do the rest for you. There is no penalty if you ever find a better deal and want to switch again and the call centre is based in London so there should't be any long-distance communication problems either.
The above paragraph was part of an e-mail I received from a group calling themselves "Pipeline Organisation".
Need any more evidence that Pipeline and UWDC are teaming up to milk the 500,000 registered members list?
Funny that the words spam and scam rhyme. Both seem appropriate for this tie-up.0 -

It isn't the first time that the uw keeps its reps in the dark, and they learn about developments from this forum. If you don't believe me, and want it from the horses mouth why not ring them and ask in the morning!
As far as misleading/false claims, apart from the efforts of their reps to get round this Board's rules on advertising (and special rules for uw reps), the ASA have adjudicated against them many times for false claims and misleading advertising.
Only today a uw rep has falsley claimed that for the last 5 years you have provided the cheapest energy, and guarantee to be cheaper than the "big 6".
When challenged that this is not true, and that the guarantee is worthless, another rep jumped in to defend by saying the guarantee is genuine, and if any customers find they aren't getting the cheapest deal, then uw will pricematch. Just lies.

The main discussion on uw is confined to this thread:

Quentin , Now you have answered my question I can respond , The Freephone number suggested to me the pipeline card is a CFR position ( Community Fund Raiser ) On checking they appear on the Uwdc CFR page and just for your benefit I called Uwdc who confirmed to me they are a CFR , CFR customers are signed up by calling a freephone number , Regards being kept in the dark unfortunately I do not know every customer / Distributor / CFR Uwdc have , no doubt you do ? , I wish when responding to my questions you would keep on track and while I can not be responsible for Uwdc Distributors giving wrong information I do not think its fair to assume they all do eg I agent saying Uwdc price match was wrong information , Surely it that individual to blame ? or do you blame the company and all Distributors ?

I did answer your question (approx 2 hours after you posed it), though there is of course no obligation to do so. In any case other posters gave you the info you requested during that period. You didn't have to await my reply to learn that the info posted was correct.
In any case, no response to my post was necessary. (As you know, we are not allowed to discuss the uw outside its designated thread).
In response to your suggestion that only one individual uw rep has made misleading posts I would point out that many, many have done so. You can still read some of them in the designated thread, though the majority just get deleted.
We are told the uw takes a dim view on any rep who brings them into disrepute by posting misleading info on message boards, yet despite this it continues here on a regular basis.
The blame must lie with the uw - it is they who seemingly give different advice in different training sessions, they that obviously do condone misleading posts/spamming etc etc. (Though they also advertise that if you pay up to become a rep, although training is available, its not compulsory??)0 -

Funnily enough I got their recent email through about energy offers when I am convinced that I had unsubscribed from any future emails after receiving offers about sat navs and wine...
... what is pipeline playing at? do they actually unsubscribe you from their mailing list when they say they have?seems like dodgy ground to me...

I had the email about UW too.....and then a follow up from Ben Scammel asking why I had not signed up to the energy supplier. I replied......................
Dear Ben,
Thank you for your eMail.
1. I signed up for Utility Warehouse energy on 24th Oct. so your
information below is incorrect.
2. Once I received their true tariff and details of their 3 hidden
charges, I cancelled and have stayed with my current supplier.
3. UW would be £74.00 more expensive than my current supplier at current
rates and this is an accurate figure based on my actual usage for 1 year.
4. I do not like the "pyramid" style of marketing that they operate.
5. The Which? report you attached acknowleges that UW may not be the
cheapest and this is definitely true. As this provider switch was to save
money - it fails miserably.
6. Some of the comparison sites do not recommend UW including
Moneysupermarket. com - they do list the company though.
7. UW are not Energywatch accredited. (OK now disbanded)
8. I hope you receive your "cut" and that something useful eventually
comes from Pipeline!!
Regards,

The original idea of this was pretty good, but it seems to be more of an advertising method for other services now. I am unsubscribing http://www.pipelinecard.org/qna.html.0
