What small print would that be?
This is all 'old hat' to me so im not going to spend hours finding everything again but one of the classics is this ~
Official rules for the James Randi Educational Foundation challenge state that $1 Million will be paid to "any person who can demonstrate any psychic, supernatural or paranormal ability." Michael Fremer has expressly stated as a condition of his challenge acceptance that he does not possess any psychic, supernatural, or paranormal abilities, and that he does not believe he has above average hearing.
Fremer works for 'pearl cable' which is what comes out all over google if you google the 'speaker cable 1 million challenge'
Fremer HAD to pull out as Randi was asking for something impossible which leads onto this ~

(Note how the links to randis own site are dead as he didnt want anyone reading them)
Now if ANYONE would have gotten the test right its the guy from stereophile. Randi HIMSELF bailed out
And lest we forget, this is RANDIS test. He can add things and take things away as he sees fit so hed EASILY get out of it if anyone scored 100% on the test. I certainly wouldnt bother even trying.............:idea:0 -

Sorry scraper ~ I was talking specifically about a 'speaker cable' challenge and the fact that when people have realised what it entails they dont even bother. People HAVE tried (Hell ~ when I 1st heard of it I was seriously considering giving it a go myself at 1 mill') but if youve NO chance of winning then its a complete and utter waste of time:idea:0 -

You only need to demonstrate what you claim. No more no less. Strangely on the day of testing those that claim feats that defy science seem to have bad days and fail. As for Randi, he's a genuine guy that I have nothing but respect for and these deluded/fraudsters such as the ones from stereophile will always make up stuff to support their position, they should be used to it considering the fiction they produce in lieu of science. From my firsthand experience (having been quoted myself by him) Randi listens to what you say and doesn't take anything you say out of context.
Unfortunately the audiophile "industry" has developed quite a lot of snake oil mercheants and "snake oil appreciators" as much as the medium, psychic "industries". The people behind it you'll notice have no scientific background at all which is why they tend to jumble "sciencey" sounding words and terms together that make as much sense as randomly throwing any words together and calling it a story."She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"

All you have to prove is that the "audiophile" cables sound better than regular old speaker cables. His challenge started out to debunk the paranormal, and he evidently thought that the claims of audiophiles were equally preposterous, so he offered to include them as well.
You don't have to prove there's anything paranormal going on. I'm sure he's more than willing to give you $1,000,000 if you can show him expensive HDMI cables look/sound better too. Send him an email and ask. Apparently he'll even let you choose how to test it.0 -
Lads ~ there is NO way on this planet id give it a go. I dont trust him at all.
And your in a dream world Marty if you truly believe hes "more than willing to give" me "$1,000,000"
That would show HIM up and its not going to happen is it. Wake up.............:idea:0 -

And yet you trust people who regularly spout bull? Funny how you never find their "science" written in any of the engineering or science journals I've ever read. I mean even the "respected" article writer you quoted disagrees with fundamental scientific methods (like blind testing, never mind double blind). Says it all.
As for the money, it's not Randi who'd give it, nor would he be doing the testing, nor even present. The testing is independent, the decision is independent, the money is even held independently."She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"

Speaker cables have definitely been 'measured' to have different properties
Digital cables have definitely been 'measured' to have jitter
Theres not much more I can say except 'cheers mr 1 post'............:idea:0 -

But even if something is measured to have different properties, that's not the same as showing it sounds or looks different.
I've been in quite a few professional recording studios over the years, and you won't find crazy esoteric ultra-expensive cables. They can only afford to spend their money on stuff that works, otherwise they'd go out of business.
The guy with the $10,000 speaker cables or the $500 main cables that "make the music come alive" or "have a better mid-range response than cheaper cables" is listening to music recorded using $50 microphone leads and hundreds of cheap patch cables, connecting equipment with dirt cheap internal wiring, which is powered by regular old kettle leads.
That kind of audiophilia is almost exclusively restricted to the consumer world, not the professional one. Given that most rooms have not so great acoustics with massive peaks and troughs and standing waves all over the place, it's a wonder that people can hear any difference in sound between equipment at all, never mind subtle changes.
Even if it did make a difference, using better equipment than the people who filmed or recorded what one is watching or listening to wouldn't be a good thing. If you listen to a piece of music on a better setup than the one I mixed it on, God knows what it's going to sound like.0 -

I'm sure they're very good cables; they're marketed and sold to consumers though.0
