    Hello:wave:

I have about half a loaf of brown bread which is just reached it use by date. Its ok with no green bits etc but its a bit past it for sandwiches so I thought I would like to have a go at bread and butter budding.

However.... I don't know how to make it and if brown bread is ok to use.

Does anyone have and tried and tested recipe they could share with me please? Thank you

Brown bread is fine. I haven't made it for ages but I've used lots of recipes and tbh they are all much of a muchness. Never known one to "fail".

I've added your thread to our main one on bread and butter pudding where you'll find lots of recipes that should help.

I have a pack of slightly stale hot cross buns that need using up- do you think I could use those to make bread pudding?

    Hi got-it-spend-it,

    Yes you certainly can.

I came across a recipe for Mini Hot Cross Bun and Butter Puddings at A Glug of Oil web site.

Let us know how yours turns out.

Im sure if anyones going to know it will be you old stylers :D

Ive had my first attempt at bread and butter pudding today, cooked for 40 mins, the top is a lovely golden brown colour but the middle looks 'stodgy' and there was like a custardy type liquid in the bottom, having never made it before I have no idea if that is correct :o

I was using gluten free bread which I dont think absorbs the milky mixture aswell and it said to use 500ml of milk.

Can anyone put my mind at ease and/or give me an easy recipe for bread and butter pudding :o

Sorry, but I usually make cakes so stodgy means not cooked in my world :rotfl:

Top is usually crispy and the middle is soggy and stodgy.

It does dry out a bit in the middle if left to go cold, then reheated. Usually tastes better next day due to this

Bread and butter pudding is basically bread soaked in a custard and then baked, so what you describe sounds about right
