Tufter is currently curled up on my feet making happy noises. He's old (it's his fifteenth birthday this month) but in generally good health, thank you :). He's still getting terrorised by the cat next door and I seem to be cleaning up sick/poo messes every other day...

  • Aw, if he's afraid to go out because of being duffed-up by the bully next door have you got him a nice private spot for his litter-tray?

Poor little Tufty. And happy purrday next month. You got some smoked salmon on order for his party?

He won't use a litter tray - even when he had bad hips he insisted on going outside (and I see him going out a lot when I'm home). I'm pretty sure the messes are actually being created by Bully Puss :(

  • Actually, that wouldn't necessarily surprise me except that cats asserting their territorial rights generally either spray or pee indoors. If it's next-door bully boy this must be causing poor Tufty a lot of stress. Got a water-pistol or some way that you could heighten any fencing?

If I do put more fencing outside, I think it'll trap Tufter in whilst not necessarily keeping Bully out: at less than a year old, he's pretty nimble. I have been sleeping downstairs quite a lot and scaring the Bully away... there's never any mess when I've slept down here.

For example, last night he snuck into the kitchen and started eating Tufter's food at 1am. I leapt out and caught him before he could escape, holding him (gently) by the scruff of the neck and shouting at him "NO! NO!" in a deep voice while he stared at me with big eyes. He didn't come back all night.

He's got a magnet-operated one that would do the trick, except that when it's wet out (very uncommon in Wales!) the wooden door swells and the catflap stiffens just enough to avoid re-latching when he comes in. While I'm unemployed I aim to spend some time trying to loosen it up so it works better!

Aah, the wee man'll be all right :) And I've got a new job! I'm starting next Tuesday and have to commute, so I guess I just have to buy that little sports car I've always wanted...
