"Her next (and last) housing benefit payment is due in two weeks time, and her BF will be covering the difference... she even handed me a wad of cash towards it now."

So how much of the almost £900 is still outstanding? It sounds to me as though you only have a promise to pay for most of it.

    Hi Badger

Thats a really great result, I am really pleased for you. Good luck with choosing your next house mate. I know from experience that choosing a new house mate can be a very anxious time, but also exciting at the same time. I look forward to hearing the next installment.

Congratulations, BL, I shall have to examine why I am so cynical and pessimistic.

You're so cynical and pessimistic because everything you said could easily have come true.

I'm glad for BL's sake that it didn't though :)

    Oo, now I'm mad...

I really want to write the following email, but I'm concerned that it may affect our "friendly" agreement with regards to rental repayment:
    Dear Quackers,

I've returned home from holiday and the good news is I've got prospective new lodgers coming round tonight. However, I've just spent a couple of hours hoovering your room, rearranging the furniture and cleaning out your kitchen cupboard / a particularly nasty mess in the kitchen bin, and seem to have misplaced a few items... I wonder if you could help me locate them?

    1) Parts of the curtain pole. I found this dismantled on your bed and was disappointed to discover that it is no longer in a complete state for refitting above the window. Being a bay window, this is particularly difficult to replace so I hope to find the original pieces!

    2) The hand soap from the bathroom. I did find your old hairdye in one of my dessert bowls, but can't seem to find the bottle of soap.

    3) One of my green tea mugs... funny enough, it almost looks as though there's one in the wheelie bin full of mould, but I'm sure that couldn't be the case.

    4) Your pillows. I found your unwashed quilt cover, but not the matching pillowcases or the pillows that once filled them.

I'm sure I'll notice more things as the day goes on... please drop me a line ASAP so I can find them.

    Regards,
    Badger

Unless you have a thorough signed inventory/schedule of condition, then you will just have to let these things go.
