There was a tesco five minutes drive away. You could have nipped there and stocked up for the weekend.
And given in coupons too ;)

Also another one in Southport itself

We didn't spend a penny while there!

Yeah, I know. We filled up at the petrol station there. We could have shopped there too but didn't want to go to Tesco on a weekend break. ;)

We didn't go to the one down the road, but we went to Southport one evening and nipped in Tesco on the way back and gave lots of nice coupons in and got a load of free shopping, so well worth it for us LOL

  • is anyone else going to southport?

i used my brit trips points to print out 2 bogof tickets to the model village, but then i left them in the printer!! model village costs around £3.50 per person and you have to pay for babies over a year old.

anyway, are my vouchers any good to anyone? if i posted them they would get to you in time if you are leaving on friday (i forgot when this promotion finishes)

Got back from Hemsby yesterday (a day Early). Booking in was quick and easy, the chalet was ok needed a bit of tlc (we paid £100 to upgrade to club thank goodness we did), used the chip shop for chips on 1st evening.....1.95 for a portion of cold rubber.......the entertainment main bar smelt terrible (a mix of sweaty socks and wet dogs!!!!!!)........the queen vic was the same......the adult luna bar we were informed never opened.
Evening entertainment was so so but i did expect better, friday was the bluecoats doing musicals and saturday was a group of 3 women singing...not good.
I have many happy memories of pontins from my childhood to early adulthood and i really was disappointed with the overall holiday.

Well, here's our 2p's view on Hemsby, after reading all the horror stories on the site we went expecting the worst. We arrived a little early and got to know the area a little bit, the site isn't huge and is well maintained, cut grass and even the gate security were extremely pleasant. We booked in quickly and found our room, although it was a little out in the boonies we didn't expect a chalet right next to the amenities and we didn't expect quality of the Ritz or Hilton afterall it was FREE.
Upon opening the room door (yes we stayed in budget), we were pleasntly surprised to see crisp white sheets and a clean duvet, clean floor, clean rooms, clean kitchen area and 14p left in the electric meter!
The entertainment was more geared for the kids, in which we have two, one 5 and one 3. Afterall isn't Pontins motto, "The Party for Kids?" We didn't stay past 10ish or so, so cannot judge the adult entertainment, but for kids it was good as it kept them entertained.
We didn't buy food onsite as there were plenty of local stores supplying food stuffs for a "Self Catering" holiday, and Asda was only a 15 minute drive away. So if you are not prepared expect food onsite to be typical of the kinds of food you would expect at fast food restaurants.
Afterall to sum it up, we had a free holiday and thoroughly enjoyed it, we (my husband and myself) judge our happiness on our kids happiness, and after a nice long weekend away, we can say the kids enjoyed it too, and would we pay next time? Yes we would.
I don't see how anyone can really complain, afterall a holiday, whether it be a free Pontins break or a cruise around the world, it is what you make it.
