Just done a test application and one VERY minor thing:
when you submit your application a page opens that says 'thanks' but you are left at the bottom of the page, you need to scroll up to find the text. This may baffle some Users and leave them unsure if they have submitted an application or not.
Also agree with others that a confirmation email would be good.
Well done MSE
I second this I was baffled

I'd put the registered charity number on the very front page rather than just have it on the About us page. Most charities do that and it's especially important for one that people might never have heard of.
Maybe even the address prominently at the bottom to show at a glance it has a physical presence? -
© 2008 MSE Charity Fund, Registered office c/o Tesciuba Limited, Sunlight House, Quay Street, Manchester M3 3JZ. Charity Registration Number 11213200 -
the registered charity number is going to go in the logo on every page
Thanks so much everyone - this is the MSE Charity and its great to have so many MoneySavers helping outMartin Lewis, Money Saving Expert.

Gift aid form says:
Name of charity 1121320
I expect that this should be "MSE Charity" and that the number should be as "Charity registration number"
There is also the slightly anal HTML geek point that you use H2s (second level headings) with no H1 (first level heading). I would wrap the main logo in an h1 which would give a valid document outline for those who need such things.
Additionally there is no validation of the apply form, allowing me to enter nonsense information or indeed not completing the form at all, though of course this may be a feature that google docs does not support. There is of course the worry that you will have to spend time sorting through incomplete/invalid entries rather than doing useful work.
Finally I note you set cookies and collect personal data in forms (submitted to google docs which would be a transfer of data outside the EEA, as I believe they mirror their data worldwide) and there is no data protection, retention and privacy policy, which would be good practice to have.0 -
First impression - nice big font - easy to read. Will edit later to give more detailed feedback
Edit: Nice and easy to understand and writte in plain English, although I don't know who proof-read it as I spotted a few grammatical errors (sorry)
I didn't do a test application, but I like the way it is laid out and is easily navigable.
Payment of donations by Paypal possible?
Great idea Martin, keep up the great work on behalf of all of us.Keep trying.........................what else is there to do?

Just a thought
Instead of paying for people to do commercial courses (which im sure you cant vet before hand), why not spend this money in developing an online MSE course, which everyone can do?0 -

i suppose the argument there is that it is restricted to those who have easy access to the internet. its a good idea, but im not sure how practical it would be for those who depend upon libraries, internet cafes etc for net access. it could also be off putting to the less technically minded.
there's also the problem of getting the course recognised. whilst developing financial literacy is great, with a commercial, accredited course from a recognised body/institution, the person has not only improved their knowledge but have also earnt a qualification.know thyselfNid wy'n gofyn bywyd moethus...0 -
I sent off a test application.
The site looks good. I wish everyone involved all the very best and I am sure it will be a huge success.I also remember the words of my friends, but I would rather have enemies than friends like youwould like to make it known that ZubeZubes avvy is a DHN, she's not dancing

Now this part it could be because I'm having one of my dull moments but the FAQs seem to be existing in a vacuum - there doesn't seem to be a flow to it - for instance - it sets off with a negative answer and then suddenly skips on to speaking about approved and accredited course and I'm sat here thinking where is the course mentioned to begin with - yes, later on I revisited the site again and found the answers but I was under the impression that FAQs pretty much answer almost everything contained in the site - well a paraphrased version in a q&a format so that you don't have to keep going back and forth to understand the context. Sorry if it all sounds too complicated but it's likely that I haven't yet got used to the site.
By the way it's kept aesthetically simple and navigating about seems to be pretty much straightforward.
When the donation is taken how does it appear on the bank statements? Would it appear as mse charity or does it have another name? Sorry if this is too obvious a question but I've noticed that my donations to justgiving always bore no resemblance to the person I actually gave donation to in the bank statements many a time.
RE donations from well wishers - I'd keep it simple and say it would come from anyone and link to how to donate page. And where you say post, if you could start If you do this, after the address in a new paragraph, that would be kind to the eyes - could be that I think the font is rather large as it is.
overall the idea is as brilliant as is it's benevolence in it's aim, so is the site appealing - wish you all success0 -
Great idea but it all sounds too wishy-washy.
"an approved and accredited course that will help improve their ability to budget and manage their finances. This doesn't include courses that teach you how to work in the finance industry"
Many people won't know what courses are available. Which ones will help without teaching you how to work in finance? I know where you're going with that, but many may not.
You need to research the courses that will qualify and let people know. Or at least point people in the direction of the type of thing you are willing to fund.
You also need to get your networking head on and get some links on sites offering courses (but you already know that:) )
The Application Form doesn't present itself very well. Can it be printed out and sent in by snail mail?
Big box for the YES/No answer about funding, but little space to explain why haven't applied for other funding.
Thought - if people haven't applied for funding elsewhere, will the Chairty help them to do so?
Like the website, pretty easy to navigate - not keen on the pictures though.
