I wonder, who coined the word in the first place ?

From the often quoted excellent How to make money from credit cards post on Motley Fool

    32. Why is it called Stoozing.

It is not generally known as Stoozing, but that has become the accepted term for it on The Motley Fool's Credit Card discussion board. While there are many people using this technique, a contributor called Stooz has been doing it since 2000.

    33. Who first called it Stoozing ?

DavidB007 referred to “doing a 'Stooz'” on 8/1/2004. The first post referring to Stoozing was by Blarm on 1/2/2004

Arrrgh... when you first hear the word 'Stoozing', you think.. !!!!!!? But it grows on ya... trust me, especially when the act of stoozing is making you cash :):D ;D

I don't mention it outside of this community, and am interested to see who is the first person I know to mention it to me.

The only problem about it getting mentioned more and more, is it draws attention to it, and it might hasten the CC companies to close loop holes :-/ :-/

Just a bit of background on "Stoozing" as a term. It developed entirely naturally over a 3 or 4 month period earlier this year on the Motley Fool's Credit Card discussion board. No-one invented a vocabulary for it - it just developed because it worked. Someone referred to "doing a Stooz" - then it just developed into "stoozing" and "being a Stoozer" and "having a Stooz Pot" etc.

I have the dubious honour of having written the "How to make money from Credit Cards FAQ" which appears on TMF at http://boards.fool.co.uk/Message.asp?mid=8661943 and also at https://www.stoozing.com . I hope people here have found it useful too. I say that I wrote it - that is pretty much true - but Stooz, himself, wrote the part of the FAQ which discusses Stoozing against your offset mortgage.

By all means ban the term from MSE, but for some reason the word Stoozing just seems to work.

I was surprised at how long it took to settle on one. There was clearly a need for a new word as it was awkward using a variety of terms or even a sentance. I don't mind what it is as long as we all use one term.

It is far too late to change it now that it is in widespread use. I remember concerted opposition to the word "homophobic" on the very reasonable grounds that it is inaccurate - it means "fear of men", but once it reaches a critical mass nobody can stop it.

Well I'll be honest with you

I have firmly adopted the stoozing word - i think it's good that those of us focused on hitting credit card companies where it hurts use the same terminlogy -

In fact Im planning to use it in a forthcoming prime time ITV prog Im presenting. So hopefully we will get it into the language.

It is my hope Fool users and MoneySavers will work together on getting the language right, disunity only helps the other side (providers)

    MY view in brief is

Stoozer - someone making profit from manipulating cheap interest deals
Tart - someone swapping 0% deals regularly
Stable Relationship - someone taking a long term low interest rate texaco 3.9% life of balance, rather than tarting
Cashback (kid) - someone paying off in full and earning cashback or rewards. I would distinguish this from stoozing as that's about 0% interest, though of course they can be combined
